About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- Articulate and understanding of the interrelatedness of commercial, technological and cultural factors with respect to sound in audio-visual media.
- Demonstrate how sound can be used to shape reactions individually and in conjunction with images.
- Apply principles and theoretical perspectives and concepts of sound theory.
- Collect, record and interpret data, incorporating qualitative and quantitative evidence into reasoned arguments.
- Present information clearly, articulating arguments and conclusions.
- Synthesise and evaluate information from a range of sources.

Sound used in conjunction with images provides a powerful yet invisible way of affecting our experience. This subject aims to explore the use of sound in audio-visual productions such as films, television and games. The creative use of sound and music in drama, children's television, first person player games and documentary are among the areas that are examined. Students will gain a critical awareness of the potential of sound and music with moving images.

Assessment in this subject includes an exam. Majority of OUA students will be required to complete their final exam remotely online (Remote eExam) via myMurdoch Learning (LMS), using Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor. You will require a device meeting the minimum standards with a webcam, microphone, and stable internet connection and perform a one-time installation of ‘Respondus LockDown Browser’ using the unique Murdoch link. You are required to complete the mandatory practice quiz before the start of the exam period to ensure a smooth experience on the day.
