Child Development in Context
About this subject
At the completion of this subject, students will have:
- A detailed understanding of an area of child development.
- An understanding of the research methods and procedures underpinning developmental findings.
- An understanding of the relationship between research methods, findings and theory.
- An understanding of how to use published developmental research in professional contexts.
- You will work at your own pace to locate research articles and prepare your assignments. You will have the opportunity to investigate an area of interest in child development through a series of assessments. Through your assignments you will understand what is known in a specific area of child development and how researchers have discovered and continue to build knowledge in the area. You will also learn how to either develop a research proposal or prepare a professional development session based on your area of interest.
Central to this unit is an understanding of child development through reading, reviewing and critiquing research. The unit starts with a range of topics from which students are encouraged to find a topic of interest. It is assumed that students undertaking this unit have completed previous studies in child development. Students in this unit will investigate a specific topic in depth rather than covering a wide range of topics. This unit offers opportunities for students to create small research proposals, prepare material for professional development and other applications of relevance to workplace or research pathways.
- Overview of your topic (0%)
- What do researchers know? (35%)
- Investigation (40%)
- Application (25%)
