About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Apply and critically analyse public health nutrition principles, frameworks, theories of change and social and intersectoral determinants of health to inform actions to improve population health outcomes.
- Critically analyse Australian and/or international public policy framework to determine their impact on nutrition-related health outcomes.
- Evaluate public health nutrition interventions and relevant policies in diverse contexts to assess their alignment with key public health priorities, including evidence-based practice, health equity, environmental sustainability, food justice, and community participation.
- Design and justify an evidence-informed and feasible public health nutrition intervention and evaluation strategy to address a defined population need.
- Appraise and utilise professional skills relevant to public health nutrition practice to effect change through advocacy and effective communication.

In this subject, you will explore the complex systems that influence nutrition and health at a population level, from social and environmental determinants to food systems and public policy. You will examine current public health nutrition challenges in Australia and globally, including diet-related chronic disease, food insecurity, and sustainability, and critically evaluate how policies and interventions respond to these issues.
Moving beyond theory, you will learn to design practical, evidence-informed public health nutrition strategies that address real-world problems. You will develop skills in analysing data and evidence, critiquing policy, and creating interventions that are feasible and foster equity. The subject also builds your professional capability to advocate for change and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
By the end of this subject, you will be equipped to think and act like a public health nutrition practitioner—able to influence systems, contribute to population health outcomes, and advocate for just and sustainable food environments.

- Assignment: 2000 words The task is to develop a public health nutrition program plan and evaluation plan (50%)
