About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Apply advanced literacy in relation to global studies concepts. Students will demonstrate analytical engagement with contemporary global affairs and the theoretical perspectives that explain their significance.
- Students will demonstrate an informed and critical understanding of current challenges and opportunities in global affairs and propose innovative solutions to them.
- Extend capacity to synthesise theory and practice in global affairs. Students will demonstrate a nuanced awareness of the diversity in debates over current issues in global affairs.
- Apply advanced literacy in relation to international relations concepts and their application to real world situations.
- Demonstrate an informed and critical understanding of international challenges and opportunities.

How does transformational change impact upon dynamics of cooperation and conflict at the international level? In what sense can international affairs be said to be ordered and what place do we have in managing disorder? Issues in Global Politics is designed to analyse and engage with these key questions by collaboratively reviewing threshold issues in global affairs. The focus will be contemporary case studies that lend themselves to the study of global challenges and potential solutions to them. You will have the opportunity to suggest case studies that fill gaps in our understanding of the nature of change and how to best manage it.
- Seminar exercises (equivalent to 2000 words), a portion of which acts as an early assessment task. (50%)
- 2,000-word research essay (50%)
