On successful completion you will be able to:
- Analyse the evolution of current policy related to the electronic health record (EHR) and the importance of various types of health information underpinning the EHR (working effectively in teams).
- Apply EHR standards, architectures and structures in health service implementations, including terminologies, structures, communications, privacy, and security to support information system integration in healthcare.
- Apply best practice strategies and methodologies to support effective implementation and adoption of electronic medical records.
- Analyse the design and functionality of clinical decision support systems within EHR environments.
- Analyse and apply data linkage and integration methods to effectively connect healthcare datasets.

In this subject, you will apply principles of health systems analysis and design to examine the technical requirements and processes involved in implementing electronic health records (EHRs). Using an enquiry-based learning approach, you will develop an in-depth understanding of design, structural, and operational considerations, (including EHR architectures, implementation and adoption strategies, interoperability, privacy and security, person and provider identification, clinical terminologies, clinical decision support systems, audit trails, and health data linkage.) This subject is recommended for students who have completed all first- and second-year subjects in the Bachelor of Health Information Management.
- Team case proposal plan (400 word equivalent per person) (10%)
- Team implementation plan (600 word equivalent per person) (15%)
- Individual case analysis report (1600 word equivalent) (40%)
- One 1.5 hour written test (1500 word equivalent) (35%)
