Designing Application Systems and Databases
About this subject
Students will be able to model and manage structured data using industry-standard tools and describe how application systems function within organisational and technical contexts. They will develop confidence in analysing system requirements and structuring and managing data.
- Analyse and model complex ICT problems
- Design and implement integrated ICT solutions
- Apply appropriate technologies across IT domains
- Harness AI to solve real-world problems
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
This block establishes a technical and conceptual foundation in ICT by focusing on how systems are designed, and how data is structured and managed. Students explore the principles and tools that underpin modern information systems, gaining practical experience with databases and application frameworks.
Assessment tasks focus on applied design and implementation using structured data and application systems. Emphasis is placed on accurate technical execution and the ability to explain and justify design decisions in context.
- System Design Proposal (40%)
- Database Design (30%)
- Database Implementation (30%)
