About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- synthesise and communicate sustainable urban design practice and theory at a neighbourhood level
- work collaboratively to discuss, analyse and critique urban development using practical, sustainable urban design tools
- employ a series of practical skills and tools to measure sustainable urban design qualities
- examine and interpret urban design practices and implementation at a neighbourhood and precinct level
- interpret and analyse urban design results and policy implications and develop practical measures to improve an area.

This is a practical, design-oriented subject designed to teach students the basic principles, techniques and tools of sustainable urban design theory and practice from a sustainable transportation, walkability and sustainable urban planning perspective. The subject focuses on precinct and neighbourhood level urban design, based on the idea that design has an important influence on the function and quality of cities. It also explores responsive places that are enriched through maximising choice.
