About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced understanding of research in information studies
- communicate research outcomes effectively to an academic and professional audience
- evaluate quantitative and qualitative research methods appropriate to information management
- analyse the ethical implications of research and design an appropriate ethical strategy.

This subject explores key theories and research in information studies, and the contribution of research to professional practice. It includes research methods, techniques and tools used in information studies; evidence based practice and ethical considerations in research.

- Placement requirements - There is a three-week full-time practicum placement attached to this unit. The placements are organised by Curtin University in accordance with guidelines. Information about practicums is available from the Curtin Practicum website
Study load
- 0.125 EFTSL
- This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.
