At the end of the program, students of the Master of Project Management can:
- apply critical thinking and technical skills to solve authentic business problems in project management
- demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills
- demonstrate mastery of a global body of project management knowledge and practice, including knowledge of research principles and methods
- independently initiate, plan and execute a substantial project to meet agreed deliverables in the field of project management
- justify decisions and judgements that address a complex project management issue considering the ethical and social consequences.
The course provides students with the knowledge to manage projects in almost any industry. It provides a pathway into project management through the development of core skills in areas such as scheduling, project costing, risk management, project leadership and procurement. Current project managers can develop new contacts and extend their knowledge by learning and applying new theories and methods, thus enabling them to move ahead in their careers.

A student who has completed this course is eligible to apply for certification as a Certified Practicing Project Practitioner (CPPP) under AIPM’s RegPM program. To qualify for CPPP the student must apply for Associate Membership with a copy of their qualification and the course must be listed on our website at the time of application.
Higher education
The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.
All applicants are required to have a Bachelor degree in a discipline other than Project Management, with equivalents considered.
Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:
- Bachelor degree; or
Work and Life
Alternatively applicants can apply with at least five years appropriate professional experience, or have a Graduate Certificate in a relevant discipline.
English Proficiency Requirements
English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:
- IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
- Bachelor degree from a country specified on the English Proficiency Bands page;
- Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
- Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
- Other tests, courses or programs defined on the English Proficiency Bands page.

Project Management is becoming a core activity in all organisations and increasingly vital to delivery of the corporate strategy.
ECU's Master of Project Management is offered within the School of Business and Law, so the course has a strong business focus.
It is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills of project management principles and practice to design, implement and lead a diverse range of projects in almost any industry.
The Master of Project Management aims to enable students to critically apply theory and principles to practice by examining real world project management cases and examples in a collaborative environment facilitated by academics and industry practitioners. Students are provided with the opportunity to research contemporary project management issues and approaches in order to solve complex problems and be able to contribute to the advancement of the profession and to the wider community.
