Game Design Introduction

This subject introduces methods and techniques for analysing problematic organisational situations, particularly those leading to the development of an information system, and draws on both technical and organisational material to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to design and implement an operational system.

Systems Analysis and Design

This unit is designed to develop the skills of problem solving and program design using an Object Oriented programming language. It assumes that you have passed an introductory unit in programming, such as ICT159 Foundations of Programming. This unit will use the Java language for practical work to develop your programming skills. Major topics include: algorithm design; procedural abstractions; the concepts of pre- and post-conditions; strings, arrays, introduction to object-oriented concepts including data abstraction, encapsulation, classes and object references, inheritance; introduction to recursion; streams and file input and output; the definition and use of common classes like lists, stacks and queues.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Cover computer science fundamentals– from implementing object-oriented programming, to range checking, error-handling, recursive solutions, search algorithms and more. Use arrays, strings, files, lists, stacks, queues and hierarchy with confidence.

Principles of Computer Science

This subject was previously known as Games Design and Prototyping.Students combine their prototyping skills and game design knowledge to develop and test original games for a wide variety of real-world settings targeting several different platforms. The prototypes developed could engage several genres, from serious and educational to casual and hardcore games.Murdoch University students should also note that Games Design Studio (MCC375) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed MCC375.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Games Design Studio

This subject will critically explore game design and playful digital content production in contemporary culture. Areas of focus will include: games (console, computer, mobile, casual and multiplayer), user-created content and playful media produsage (e.g. Indie game development, modding, web and app development). These practices will be examined from a number of perspectives, including game studies, critical design and new media theory. Students will learn key concepts emerging from these fields, and how to apply them.Murdoch University students should also note that MCC232 Video Game Studies is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed MCC232.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
