Sharpen your understanding of contract law principles. Learn how contracts are formed, negotiated and performed. Explore the circumstances in which a contract can be terminated. Focus particularly on the role of the contract in the business world.

Students completing this subject develop an advanced understanding of the International Baccalaureate pedagogical strategies to promote and maximise student learning and engagement. Students learn about the developmental approach to learning and teaching with a particular focus on inquiry-based learning. Students investigate research-based pedagogies and apply them to children’s and adolescents’ learning. Students develop a capacity to think critically about the way pedagogies are applied in different circumstances for varying purposes, taking into account the broad social, political, and economic context of schools. A focus of the content is on non-traditional pedagogical approaches that foster and encourage student’s creative capacities through their own inquiry.

Applied Pedagogy

Counselling and Advice on Medicines focusses on patient-centred care with patient counselling concepts and application of communication skills in clinical scenarios. This patient-centred care is extended to the study of over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Principles of drug therapy such as adverse reactions, drug interactions, medication adherence, patient counselling are discussed and applied to simulated cases.

Counselling and Advice on Medicines

This subject will provide you with the opportunity to apply theories of teaching and learning in healthcare settings. Your knowledge and skills will be further developed through examining practical issues related to assessing learners as well as the provision of feedback to enhance performance. Your teaching knowledge and skills will be evidenced through lesson planning, the development of a teaching portfolio, and reflection on practice.

Applied Learning and Teaching for Health Professionals

This unit will introduce you to the psychology sub-disciplines of applied intercultural and community psychology. It will focus on theory and methods, as well as the ways in which interactions within and across different cultures influence behaviour, well-being, cognition, and the constructions and understandings of self, others and social reality. With a focus on strengths and competencies, not simply deficits and or inequities, the unit will include review of historical antecedents, paradigms, conceptual models, strategies and tactics of social and community change and action. Topics will include theory and evidence-based examples and methodologies from selected contexts and social systems, such as education, mental health, community organizations, the workplace, health care, the justice system, and social services.

Applied Intercultural and Community Psychology

How do historians practice their craft? How does it inform issues and debates in contemporary society? What skills does it teach us? Through the lens of historical literacy, this unit examines the meanings, structures, methodologies, and interpretive frameworks of historical thinking, as well as the relationship between history and the public sphere. The Bachelor of History (OUA) Capstone provides students with the opportunity to plan, design, and undertake a project that leverages the skills, methods, and knowledge they have developed throughout their degree. Drawing on knowledge and content from across their studies, students work individually and collectively to frame a research question from primary sources, archives and/ or material objects. They will then investigate this research question, applying historical and archaeological skills and approaches to answer it. The unit enables students to understand and articulate how their historical literacy is an important attribute of their employability. By the end of the unit, students will have produced a substantial piece of written work, demonstrating their readiness for postgraduate study or professional pathways that require analytical, research, and communication skills.

Bachelor of History Capstone

In this subject, you will learn how to apply research to solve real world problems of the sort that you will encounter in your practice as health professionals. This subject will employ experiential learning principles through nested and authentic assessments. This will give you the opportunity to learn research methods in a sequential manner and receive focused feedback, thereby increasing confidence to use your research skills in future professional roles. From the first week you will be placed in research teams to enable collaboration and support across the subject. In groups, you will begin by developing your skills in identifying a problem, developing a research question and objective, and designing a review protocol to locate, appraise and extract information from relevant high-quality sources. Next, you will conduct a search and synthesise findings in a transparent scientific format whereby you practice the skills of narrative and tabular summaries. Subsequently, you will be exposed to data and gain basic statistical knowledge needed to prepare a data report and contextualise your findings within the broader literature. Finally, student research teams will take part in a group poster presentation whereby the findings from across the semester are summarised and contextualised. You will have the chance to identify future research cycle improvements and reflect on your work across the semester. Additionally, members of the La Trobe research community will present their work to demonstrate practical applications of research skills relevant to health professionals. In conclusion, PHE2AHR is a second year subject, therefore to ensure your best opportunity for success in meeting the subject&#39;s intended learning outcomes, it is recommended that you have completed at least 120 credit points before enrolling.

Applied Health Research

In this subject, you will focus on further developing your competence and confidence in the use of the current edition of the Australian-Modified version of the World Health Organization&#39;s International Classification of Diseases, the Australian Classification of Health Interventions, and the Australian Coding Standards for accurate assignment of codes in a timely manner. You will gain experience in coding from a range of medical record formats and specialties in coding practicums hosted by industry experts. You will develop a deeper understanding of the national funding model and the important role that internal and external clinical coding auditing plays in health classification quality assurance. Topic areas include audit quality tools, record selection and delivery of coding education. You will achieve competencies in clinical coding auditing for internal data quality control and coding practice management. Pass grade is 50%. Assessment hurdle that students must pass the final online exam with a grade of 50% or more. Placements are expected to be face-to-face unless a suitable location cannot be found and then they may be online.

Applied Health Classification

This subject introduces MBA students to a range of accounting and finance topics which will enable them to participate in financial decision making and governance in organisations from a range of industries and across multiple sectors. Students will develop an understanding of how to assess an organisation’s past financial position and performance, and assess the impact of investment and financing decisions on the organisation’s future.
