This subject enables the student to explore historical styles of interior design and decoration in order to create an understanding of the context of contemporary interior design and decoration practice. For this subject the student will provide evidence of this understanding through visual and written means.

History of Interior Design and Decoration

This subject is designed to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of a career in design practice that extends to the transdisciplinary nature of interior design professional practice. Students investigate the role of the interior designer within the complexities of a project and what it means to collaborate professionally with consultants, suppliers and clients. Interior Architecture Practice 2

This subject introduces the reality of contemporary professional practice, and allows students to consider and prepare for opportunities for future industry employment. Contemporary local, national and international transdisciplinary realities of Interior Architecture practice are the foci of this subject, which investigates and simulates real-life issues, complexities and opportunities in practice. Interior Architecture Practice 1

This subject was previously known as Architecture Design 2.This subject explores the sense of place and the notion of inhabitation. It explores the built environment as a representation of collective values, investigates the relationship between ideas, human body and built form, and develops an understanding of primary components of space, form, structure and materials. It refers to and uses communication methods taught concurrently in other subjects. This subject requires students to create new structures for inhabitation at a personal scale that engage well with a given landscape, including solar, wind and sound. Architecture and Interior Architecture Methods 1B - Digital Literacy

This subject was previously known as Architecture Methods 1.This subject introduces students to ways in which designers communicate aspects of the built environment through the exploration of a design problem. The emphasis is on the importance of the visualisation of concepts for a sketch design and design development. Architecture and Interior Architecture Methods 1A - Analogue Literacy

Under the direction of a supervisor, students are offered a stimulative environment, which incorporates a breadth of practice and academic experiences relevant to the discipline of Interior Architecture. Each student will initiate and develop an individual project aimed at enhancing their design expertise. Core theory, technological strategies, and/or practices continue to be interrogated at an advanced level. Students are required to appropriately structure their research strategies in relation to the evolution of their particular topic, deploying appropriate methodologies and methods. Interior Architecture Honours Proposal

This subject was previously known as Interior Design Studio 1 - City.An introduction to the world of designing – the act and the outcomes with an emphasis on the domain of the ‘interior’ and its creation through design. The subject introduces the discipline of Interior Architecture and the role of the Interior Architect as a practitioner with particular attitudes and beliefs. Community settings within the city are explored as the context of the interior: the city as cultural artefact, its conditions, its histories and spaces. This subject was previously known as Architecture Design 3.This subject introduces students to different spatial typologies and explores the relationship between site and people. A hypothetical client is introduced to inform the formulation of a design brief and the idea of tailoring a design solution to an individual person, within a residential typology. The design proposition focuses on understanding spatial typologies and applying this knowledge to the design of a small building and its interior in a given setting. Work Integrated Learning is incorporated through simulated studio processes focused on investigation of spatial typologies in a real site, and interaction with community, climate and environment.This subject has BAS140 Architecture Habitation Studio and BAS145 Architectural Habitation Methods as mandatory prerequisites. If you have completed BAS140 prior to 2015, you are not required to enrol into BAS145 as BAS140 was previously counted as double subject.
