This subject was previously known as VIS18 Historical Issues in Art and Design.
This subject provides students with an introduction to some of the key ideas and events in the history of art and design. It is intended as a basic introduction to the history of ideas and the effects such ideas have had on the recent evolution of art and design. While this unit has a Euro-centric bias, ideas from other cultural histories are introduced. Students are taught the visual literacy and analysis needed to be able to understand historical and contemporary art and design.

You will develop a comprehensive understanding of building surveying scientific principles used in the design and operation of these developments.The course covers the Building Code of Australia Volume 2 and associated Australian Standards, focusing on the design and assessment of residential buildings. You will learn about the requirements for timber-framed and steel-framed residential construction, and gain knowledge of fire safety, energy efficiency, health, and amenity requirements for residential buildings. Additionally, the course addresses bushfire mitigation measures essential for the design and construction of residential buildings. Building Surveying

This subject explores how different cultural understandings and models influence and shape how we interpret the world around us, perceive ourselves and relate to other people. You will build your cultural capability (knowledge, skills and attitudes) through self-awareness and reflection on the values, behaviours, beliefs and world views of yourself and others. The subject is underpinned by the cultural knowledge, lived experience and perspectives of diverse individuals, groups and communities, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This understanding will support your ability to engage in respectful relationships, and to make ethical, reflective and culturally-sensitive decisions in diverse professional contexts and environments.

Building Cultural Capability

In this subject, you are introduced to the broad concepts of health data and system development lifecyle (SDLC) and the purpose, scope, design and functionalities of health information systems. You will explore the theoretical concepts behind systems planning, analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, support and maintenance of the systems development lifecycle including issues that impact systems, data and information security. Through your assessments, you will demonstrate technical skills in systems planning, analysis and design phases of the SDLC by creating user stories and data flow diagrams as well as evaluating systems design. You will develop an understanding of how health professionals interact with the health information systems development lifecycle.

Health Information Systems Analysis and Design

This subject introduces students to sources of law affecting building projects (including the judicial system, common and statute law, contract law, torts and dispute resolution) in relation to the various types of contracts available for project delivery. In teaching students how to utilise their knowledge of construction law and contracts in relation to the various types of procurement strategies, contracts and dispute resolution strategies/methodologies, this unit also aims to enable students to learn how to assess, highlight and address the competing priorities of time, cost, quality, risk transfer and risk mitigation to determine the most appropriate form of project procurement strategies for a specific project.Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’.
