This subject allows students to develop advanced writing techniques and creative artefact planning skills  through the production of a major piece of work for publication. It will also extend students’ knowledge about a range of writing genres and insights into the writing process. It exposes students to the many different approaches to the practice of writing by critically appraising a range of writing practitioners and published works. It will also further develop and apply critical, theoretical and reflective understandings through the frame of practice-led research to assist in the development of a student’s own folio of original work.

Continue the development of your writing folio. Complete the artefact and exegesis that you began in Writing and Praxis: Publication Folio A (PWR80005).Research a wide range of writing genres including crime, business and short story writing.

The Creative Artefact: Publication Folio B

Students will investigate the art of visual storytelling and explore a range of techniques for the creation of story elements such as structure, character, dialogue, adaptation and layout. The subject also explores how cultural and critical theories offer frameworks for understanding film, television and multimedia.

Learn the skills behind the scripts of your favourite films and productions, including structure, character, dialogue and more. Learn to critique genres and theoretical approaches – before lifting your pen and unleashing your inner scriptwriter.

Scriptwriting

In this subject, students will learn the dimensions of research and publication in the writing of history. Students will develop the skills needed to create narratives using local, family, social or material history and to produce a piece of writing for publication in print and/or online.

Take your readers back in time as you learn about the process of researching, producing and publishing historical writing.Discuss creating fictionalised characters based on real people. Consider local, family and social approaches to history.

Writing History: People, Places and Times

In this subject, students will learn how to read, write and research a wide range of writing styles typical to those met in the degree of their work and/or life. Students will gain insight into different forms of professional writing, have access to professionals speaking about their particular form of professional writing, develop understanding of the relationship between professional writing style and target audience, and obtain skills in writing for different professional purposes.

Hone your ability to write and research materials across a variety of writing styles.Evaluate reviews, advertisements, reports, histories and scholarly discourse. Think about target audiences. Listen to lectures from working professionals.

Real Life Writing

This subject aims to provide an introduction to our solar neighbourhood, including terrestrial planets, giant planets, minor bodies and the Sun. The emphasis is on conceptual astronomy rather than mathematical techniques.

Revolve around the solar system. Survey the stellar suburbs of stars, terrestrial and giant planets and the Moon and Sun. Understand Earth’s position.  Study celestial activities of the night sky. Probe the solid surfaces of Mercury, Venus and Mars. 

Exploring the Solar System

This subject offers students the opportunity to undertake research into the creative industries or to develop a business plan for a creative industries service, product or engagement. Students will learn about the key industry knowledge repositories and how to access them, how to develop industry focused research, and how to build a creative industries focused engagement or business plan. They will develop skills in entrepreneurial thinking.

Take a hands-on approach as you develop a business plan for a creative industry. Learn how to access industry knowledge, conduct research and think as an entrepreneur. Assess plans and campaigns for creative industries to gain confidence.

Creative Industry Enterprise

Develop an understanding of Practice-led Research as it applies to the development of a writing folio. In this subject, you will explore the approaches and methodologies of Practice-led Research and investigate the components of studio-based practice and research. The subject will deepen your understanding of the importance of reflective practice and reflexivity for writers involved in Practice-led Research. It will give you an understanding of how the planning process can assist the creation of, and problem solving for, the production of a major piece of writing. The development of a folio of work, including artefact and exegesis, begins in this subject and is continued in Folio B.

Get to know the components writers rely on when undertaking practice-led research. Unpack scholarly methodologies. Draw on these tools to enhance your creative practice.Begin to develop an artefact and exegesis to make up part of a folio of work.

Writing and Praxis: Publication Folio A

This subject lets you explore the key ideas around the identity and creative practice of the writer, including notions of the ‘writerly self’, current understandings of creativity and the relationship between subjectivity and reflection. This subject encourages you to reflect deeply and critically on the nature of your writing and to consider a range of methodologies that can help you map your development as a writer.
This subject was previously known as Critical and Creative Practices: The Writerly Identity.

Creativity for Practice

Skills in writing for digital new media platforms are in high demand. This subject analyses the most commonly used platforms, programs and tools for writing professionally and creatively in the digital space. It examines the theories and practices behind text and non-text based online and social media communications.
This subject was previously known as Online Writing.

Enter the digital realm and face the issues, genres and audiences the online writer must consider.Look at how writing practices differ in the online space. Note principles that underpin digital literacy. Implement your own online writing project.

Writing for Digital Media

This subject focuses on the relationship between literary theories and how we write. It guides students through the production of a piece of writing that employs a theoretical lens of the student’s choice.

Connect the dots between literary theories and the actual practice of writing.Recognise how journaling can enrich the process of reading and writing. Write a new piece while drawing on your knowledge of the literary theory of your choice.
