This multidisciplinary course provides specialised advanced training for graduates or occupational health and safety practitioners with an emphasis on risk and safety management, accident prevention and safety technology. It allows for a degree of additional specialisation according to individual needs and upon completion provides entry into the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. All students will be required to undertake an academic skills module at the commencement of the course.Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.

Ergonomics

This subject develops knowledge and skills in the systematic management of occupational health and safety (OHS), with considerations of economics and effectiveness with respect to its implementation. Health and Safety Economics and Management

The subject aims to introduce students to practical and theoretical aspects of accident prevention and management within the broader context of Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management. Accident Prevention and Safety Management

The aim of this subject is to achieve a balance between the practical and theoretical aspects of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risk management as well as providing an introduction to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation. The subject introduces WHS law, including an outline of the legal system and the hierarchy of legislation, before examining risk management. This begins with an exploration of the OHS risk management process before specifically focusing on high risk hazards. Risk Management and Safety Technology

This subject will develop students’ theoretical and practical understanding of the recognition, evaluation and management of occupational hygiene and related safety hazards. Workplace contaminants and stressors and their evaluation: gases, vapours, dusts, heat and noise will form the focal points for investigation and analysis. This subject further covers preliminary survey, selection of instruments and analytical methods; a field survey: interpretation and use of results as well as instrumentation and techniques. Other areas of this subject include application of monitoring, control strategies, statistics, material safety data sheets and strategy of safety design.
