This subject is designed to provide you with hands on practical experience developing software in a project environment. You work in teams and will complete projects from inception to implementation.
This subject includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
As the project teams and projects will be assigned during the first week all enrolled students are advised to engage with the subject from the beginning of week 1.
Please note: This subject is considered to be a capstone subject for the Bachelor of Information Technology degree in which students demonstrate their competency in a (simulated) Work Integrated Learning (WIL) environment.
All students seeking the Bachelor of Information Technology award will need to complete this subject.

Progress a profession in programming. Get hands-on experience and work with teams developing software in a commercial project setting. Integrate formal project management methods. Track and manage project process from concept to implementation.

Programming Project

From Jules Verne to Star Trek, science fiction has proven to be remarkably prescient in developing new technologies, and shaping attitudes towards that technology. You will also study why certain predictions did not come true. This subject uses ideas from science fiction to inform and educate you about key concepts in science and technology in an on-mathematical way. You will explore not only the limits imposed by physics, but also some of the ways that science fiction has inspired ways to be at those limits. Examples include teleportation, quantum computing, time travel and warp drives.
This subject will enable you to better understand the role of science and technology  in shaping the future, gain an understanding of the scientific process, recognise the importance of multidisciplinary research teams for solving some of the society’s biggest technological challenges, and help them take their place in Designing the Future.
The subject will be delivered in 3 blocks of 4 weeks each, with each block including 4 x theory-based and 1 x math-based online tests. For each block, all material will be available immediately, and all online tests will be due before the commencement of the following block.

Navigate the journey between science fact and fiction. Learn how fictional ideas inspire futuristic, functional design. From Star Trek to cryogenics and nanotechnology, clarify how scientific research has solved many tech challenges in society. 

Science Fiction, Science Fact

This subject is a general science elective for students without necessarily a science background, nevertheless a fundamental mathematical component is key to fully appreciating the topic material (this includes a basic understanding of algebra, trigonometry and logarithms; no calculus is required in this course).
The subject provides an introduction to some of the key concepts in astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. An understanding of stars, galaxies, black holes and the Universe in general is developed. In addition, students are invited to research their own area of interest in astronomy to a depth dictated by their own ability.

Revolve around the origin and development of the galaxy and universe. Navigate a course in astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. Explore the life cycle of stars and the gravitational effects of black holes. Discuss the Big Bang hypothesis. 

Astronomy and Black Holes

This subject considers supply chain management as a holistic logistics management process across the full spectrum of business activities, from the sourcing of raw materials from suppliers to the delivery of goods and services to the final customers and consumers. The subject provides a synthesis of the many critical facets of supply chain management. You will formulate appropriate strategies to enhance overall efficiency and responsiveness through optimisation of supply network design and logistics operations.This subject includes a Work Integrated Learning experience. You will undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice; and be involved in authentic engagement with partner organisations that include industry feedback. This subject also provides you with a capstone experience, which will provide you with the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.

Take a bird's eye view of supply chain management and see the process from start to finish.
Examine the theory that goes into designing a distribution network. Learn to measure supply and demand. Formulate ideas that improve supply chain efficiency.

Strategic Supply Chain

This subject aims to provide a broad introduction to the fundamentals of data communication and network technology. The emphasis is on higher aspects of data communication from the perspective of computer scientists and information technologists; the subject covers the underlying mechanisms and their characteristics that need to be considered by communicating application software.
Topics include:
<ul><li>principles and reference models of data communication;</li><li>basic operation of communication systems;</li><li>protocols and error handling, and applications in networked environments.</li></ul>

Learn how people, devices, information and services are continuously connected by an evolving data communications network. Gain critical analysis talent, uncover data communication methods, and reveal the drivers for adopting alternative technologies.

Data Communication and Net-Centric Computing

Gain an understanding of animal identification for future employment in agricultural, horticultural and environmental areas. You will finish the subject being able to examine animal structure and identify animals in phylum or better level using appropriate techniques. You will study invertebrates (sponges, cnidarian, flatworms, molluscs, annelids, anthropods, nematodes, echinoderms, etc.) and the vertebrates (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals). You will also learn about lifecycles, structure, function and reasons for importance of different groups of animals.

Take a virtual trek into the natural world and study the structures, lifecycles and functions of different animal groups. Explore animal reproduction and body processes. Identify the characteristics in fauna as varied as amphibians, worms, mammals and birds.

Plant Diversity

This course will provide you with an in-depth knowledge and practical skills on the structural and functional components of cells, tissues and organisms (at undergraduate year level 2). It provides a study of the chemical processes taking place in organisms and the technical skills needed to investigate these processes. It introduces key concepts of biological chemistry and relates them to cell physiology, with an emphasis on structure-function relationships.The course aims to develop your knowledge of different aspects of biochemistry through lectures, and the application of skills and knowledge is demonstrated in practical sessions, which help develop the employability skills required in biochemical analysis in a range of industries.The course also develops skills related to the critical assessment of scientific data and the presentation of scientific results used in all disciplines within the sciences.

Cultivate skills about structures, properties and functions of cells, tissues and organisms. Study biomolecules, enzyme kinetics, and metabolism. Reveal chemical processes in organisms. Develop technical and biochemical investigation talents

Biological Chemistry

This subject provides an introduction to quantitative methods that can be used in industry. You will acquire advanced spreadsheet and database modelling skills. The subject will introduce static and dynamic models of supply chains and logistics systems. Specifically it will apply transport and transhipment models to optimise supply chains.
The subject will enhance your appreciation of logistics and the usefulness of mathematical and statistical models in solving logistics problems. You will learn to think systematically about the fundamental processes involved and to evaluate the performance of a supply chain as a system. You will also develop your critical thinking skills to the point where you are able to deliberate on contemporary issues in supply chain management.

Optimise logistics and distribution practices using state-of-the-art practices. 
Advance your spreadsheet and database modelling skills. Simulate real supply chain challenges. Wield mathematical and statistical models to work out logistics issues.

Supply Chain Analytics

This course introduces you to the principles and practice of developing applications using C# programming language. Topics include the C# programming language, ASP.NET, Web API, client-side libraries and security.What you will learn:<ul><li>Gain a solid architectural understanding of ASP.NET Core MVC.</li><li>Explore the entire ASP.NET MVC Framework as a cohesive whole.</li><li>See how MVC and test-driven development work in action.</li><li>Learn what&#39;s new in ASP.NET Core MVC and how best to apply these new features to your own work.</li><li>See how to create RESTful and Angular Single Page Application.</li></ul>
