Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Methodologies

This subject was previously known as EDC161 Performing Arts for Educators.
This is the first of two Arts Education subjects. It introduces The Arts Learning Area subjects of Dance, Drama and Music and positions The Arts in a cultural context. The value and role of The Arts in children’s developmental growth and education is elucidated. The centrality of inquiry-based and praxis-led learning in dance, drama and music, that emphasizes creative thinking, self-expression, meaning-making and communicating ideas, is explored. Performing-arts praxis, reflection and appreciation activities provide experiential learning opportunities designed to promote personal confidence, arts literacy and presentation and communication skills in the performing arts – and for teaching. Within a lifelong learning framework, direct experience and personal investment in arts learning is intended to develop content knowledge.

Students learn how to understand common business contractual terms and implications to develop an appreciation of how contracts are used to allocate risk. Applied Data Structures

Students completing this subject develop an advanced understanding of the International Baccalaureate pedagogical strategies to promote and maximise student learning and engagement. Students investigate research-based pedagogies and apply them to children’s and adolescents’ learning. Students develop a capacity to think critically about the way pedagogies are applied in different circumstances for varying purposes, taking into account the broad social, political, and economic context of schools. A focus of the content is on non-traditional pedagogical approaches that foster and encourage student’s creative capacities through their own inquiry.

Applied Pedagogy

This subject will support you to gain the theoretical understandings, skills and methodologies to provide learning and teaching experiences within the Languages domain. You will be required to develop a comprehensive and coherent base of theoretical understandings upon which to base future learning and teaching experiences, which will suit the diverse contexts in which Languages teaching may occur. You will begin to explore and apply to practice contemporary language teaching theories, methodologies, principles and practices as expressed in the ACARA Curriculum: Languages. Current issues in Language teaching will be critiqued to develop the learner&#39;s professional understanding of being a Language educator.

Languages Teaching Methodologies

This unit will introduce you to the psychology sub-disciplines of applied intercultural and community psychology. It will focus on theory and methods, as well as the ways in which interactions within and across different cultures influence behaviour, well-being, cognition, and the constructions and understandings of self, others and social reality. With a focus on strengths and competencies, not simply deficits and or inequities, the unit will include review of historical antecedents, paradigms, conceptual models, strategies and tactics of social and community change and action. Topics will include theory and evidence-based examples and methodologies from selected contexts and social systems, such as education, mental health, community organizations, the workplace, health care, the justice system, and social services.
