In this subject, you will learn the core principles of sensors and sensor networks, investigating how these technologies are generating revolutionary scale change across many industries. You will acquire practical skills via simulation based learning for sensor deployment, sensor technology solutions aligned with industrial objectives, and sensor networks capable of transferring real-time data to external systems. The principles and processes of quality management are the key elements that businesses use to respond to market and customers’ needs and maintain business viability through improved efficiency, product quality and safety, and improvement of service delivery. Quality management is comprised of the four key components of quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. Finally, key contemporary issues related to the maritime industry are addressed.

The aim of this subject is to examine the processes, functions and strategies required by organisations to acquire goods, services and equipment from other organisations. The subject covers three broad dimensions of the procurement function within organisations. Firstly, the subject familiarises you with the procurement processes employed by organisations in both the public and private sectors. Secondly, the subject discusses strategic decision-making in a range of procurement-related issues that have a direct impact on how an organisation operates. Thirdly, the subject examines the supplier-related tasks of purchasing professionals, including supplier selection and management.
