In this subject, these principles and strategies for future cyber security are explored. The subject introduces the broad discipline of cybersecurity and outlines how to ensure the privacy, reliability, confidentiality and integrity of information systems and mitigate against cyber threats and risks.

In this subject you are introduced to the steps involved in designing and creating a software solution to simple real-life problems. To enable students to design a program, the subject introduces the way to break down the problems into smaller parts and analyse them methodically by using simple techniques such as drawing flowcharts. You will be introduced to the Python programming language as a means of creating executable program code to implement working software solutions.

Students will be introduced to the rapidly expanding and influential field of information technology which comprises various types of technologies in computers (both hardware and software) and computer networks. It is therefore relevant to students in a wide range of disciplines: for examples, health sciences, business, engineering and technology. Students will be taught the fundamental principles of computer operations, different types of input/output and storage devices, computer networks including Local and Wide area networks, information systems, Database, the Internet, the World Wide Web and HTML. Students will acquire the knowledge and practical skills in information technology and be able to apply them to their field of study.

Any modern business today will utilise some form of spreadsheet tool to review, manipulate and visualise data (in the form of charts for reporting). A spreadsheet tool also enables one to undertake advanced tasks on business data, such as performing scenario analyses and undertaking complex data analytics, for example creating a forecasting model. In this subject, you will learn how to use two technological tools to undertake data analysis. The first tool is Structure Query Language (SQL), which we will use to pull relevant data into Excel and facilitate further analysis. Next, various advanced Excel analyses including pivot tables, statistical analysis, and creation of basic forecasting models will be covered. Upon successful completion of this subject you will be proficient in basic data analysis using Excel and SQL, setting you up to become an analytical and data driven problem solver. With these skills, you will also be ready to identify insights allowing you to disrupt typical business operations systematically and with a higher chance of success.

Students will become familiar with data visualisation and computing, descriptive statistics, statistical modelling, and data-based decision making. Using statistical computing packages is an integral part of this subject. This subject allows further study in second-year subjects in statistics and data science.

Making Sense of Data

In this subject you will be introduced to the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the delivery of healthcare. Beginning with an investigation of what is &quot;digital health&quot;, you will become familiar with the most common digital technologies utilised by healthcare professionals. The benefits and challenges surrounding the introduction of digital health for both health professionals and consumers will be explored. The common enablers of, and barriers to, adoption will be identified. You will research the technological, clinical, social, legal, and ethical impacts of the digitisation of health care. Past successes and failures, and future trends in digital health, will be explored along with the international and national drivers for a digital health strategy.

Understanding Digital Health

In this subject, you are introduced to quantitative statistics, qualitative coding and the role of health data analytics in healthcare organisations and public health research. Key emphases include understanding the importance of healthcare data as an asset, identifying and applying the key elements of the data capture and analysis process in key research methodologies, along with effective presentation, communication and dissemination of findings beyond peer review publications. You will also investigate the role of health data analytics in quality and performance indicators. This subject includes synchronous sessions held during business hours. This means that you will attend sessions each week simultaneously with your facilitator and classmates. This subject is recommended for first-year undergraduate students.

Introduction to Data Analytics in Healthcare

Due to the ubiquitous nature of mobile and wireless technology in our daily lives and business operation, ensuring wireless security is becoming a top priority. This subject explores the security vulnerabilities in wireless networks and cover the fundamental concepts of confidentiality, integrity and availability. The following key concepts will be covered: Wireless LAN Security - Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), Authentication Servers (RADIUS), 802.11i security standard; Securing Ad-Hoc Networks - MAC layer misbehaviour, secure routing protocols, types of attacks and solutions, key management, broadcast authentication.

Additionally, the subject examines cybercrime business models, criminological theories, and the impact of organisational culture, leadership, and communication on cyber security practices. Students will analyse the economic and financial implications of investing in human factors in cyber security and propose cost-effective risk management strategies.
