In the modern Internet era, industries and organisations need to be prepared to defend against cyber threats and attacks. Stakeholders should be familiar with basic principles and best practices of cybersecurity to protect their businesses and personal information. In this subject, these principles and strategies for future cyber security are explored. Key topics include: information security; ethical and legal practices; mitigating cyber vulnerabilities; and the process of incident response and analysis. The subject introduces the broad discipline of cybersecurity and outlines how to ensure the privacy, reliability, confidentiality and integrity of information systems and mitigate against cyber threats and risks.

In this subject you are introduced to the steps involved in designing and creating a software solution to simple real-life problems. To enable students to design a program, the subject introduces the way to break down the problems into smaller parts and analyse them methodically by using simple techniques such as drawing flowcharts. You will be introduced to the Python programming language as a means of creating executable program code to implement working software solutions.

Programming Environment

This subject provides a strong foundation for cryptography and coding, which are fundamental for mastering cybersecurity. Technical skills in mathematics will be developed, enabling the introduction of a range of common cryptographic techniques, including public and private key encryption, hashing, and cryptanalysis.

Cryptography and Security

In this subject, you will learn design, management, extraction, integration, and reporting of health data. You will gain practical skills in developing and maintaining fully relational health databases using national health data standards and models. Theoretical and logical principles of health database and system administration will be introduced, including entity-relationship diagrams, normalisation, meta-data and an introduction to SQL for relational database queries and reporting. Specialised tools for visualisation of health data sets will also be taught.

Health Database Fundamentals

In this subject, you will explore governance functions in the health sector, including accountability, risk management, accreditation, and quality and safety management, with a focus on health information and supporting technologies within system and organisational contexts. You will develop an understanding of how health information is managed at multiple levels to support quality of care and service delivery. This includes examining individual patient records as evidence of care, aggregated data to measure and evaluate healthcare processes and outcomes, clinical documentation for diagnostic and therapeutic decisions, and coded data used to monitor and improve patient safety.

Health Information Governance

In this subject, you are introduced to the broad concepts of health data and system development lifecyle (SDLC) and the purpose, scope, design and functionalities of health information systems. You will explore the theoretical concepts behind systems planning, analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, support and maintenance of the systems development lifecycle including issues that impact systems, data and information security. Through your assessments, you will demonstrate technical skills in systems planning, analysis and design phases of the SDLC by creating user stories and data flow diagrams as well as evaluating systems design. You will develop an understanding of how health professionals interact with the health information systems development lifecycle.

Health Information Systems Analysis and Design

In this subject you will explore current and emerging topics in Network Systems and Web Security. Beginning with an analysis of security attacks on system services and a discussion of both traditional and modern security mechanisms, the subject expands to cover security paradigms across various domains. The subject topics include system security, network security, web security, cloud security, and innovative approaches in cybersecurity.

Network Systems and Web Security

In this subject students will examine: IPng Protocol and its features; Routing protocols like RIPv1/v2, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and their performance under different operating environments; Transmission Control Protocol and flow control algorithms; UDP protocol and its uses.

Intermediate Network Engineering

This subject will strengthen and reinforce your knowledge of the design, development and deployment of network infrastructure, including OSI and TCP/IP layering architecture, routing protocols, LANs, WLANs and VLANS; network management; network security through ACLs, firewalls; and network virtualization and automation. Labs are designed carefully to broaden your understanding of how to apply theoretical concepts in designing a large-scale network. The content of this subject prepares you for Cisco Academy certification. This subject assesses competency and only pass or fail grades are awarded.

Frontiers in Network Technologies

This subject considers the procedures related to digital forensic investigation in computing and networking scenarios. Students critically appraise the key concepts associated with data hiding, evidence collection and validation and traffic analysis required to perform forensic analysis in a digital environment. Students learn the importance of legal considerations in the documentation of forensic evidence. Case studies are incorporated for students to apply practical forensic tools.
