This subject introduces students to the disciplines of criminology and criminal justice. It begins with an examination of the nature of crime and how it is defined and measured in contemporary society. The subject then provides an overview of the impact of criminological theories on our understanding of crime problems and the implications for criminal justice responses. A major part of the subject is focused on the dimensions of crime and the way crime is shaped by a range of personal and social characteristics. For example, we explore the relationship between crime and social class, the links between age and crime, the relationship between gender and crime, and the reasons for the substantial over-representation of Indigenous people in all parts of the criminal justice system in Australia. Importantly, the subject also explores the main criminological theories that have shaped how we understand why crime occurs, which have direct implications for how we respond to and reduce crime. These theories include structure and process theories, individual difference theories, and meaning making theories.

Examine crime and the ways it’s defined and explained in contemporary society. Study the relationship between crime and class, youth and crime (and the response), gender and crime, and the over-representation of Indigenous people.

Introduction to Criminology and Criminal Justice

In just two decades, digital media and the world wide web have fundamentally altered the operations of businesses around the globe. This course gives you a strategic-level working knowledge of digital and social media marketing. The course further introduces best practices in acquiring, communicating with consumers, and retaining customers on the internet. The course examines digital technologies and their impact on, and implications for, marketing strategy, consumer behaviour, market segmentation, advertising and media planning. Pre-Requisites: NIL. Digital and Social Media Marketing

This subject provides an overview of the various areas within the criminal justice system in which frontline workers come across people with mental disorders. It examines the way in which the criminal justice system (including police, court, and correctional staff) deals with individuals with mental disorders. In particular, the subject focuses on the identification and treatment of individuals with mental disorders; relevant processes and decision-making in different elements of the criminal justice system; examining contemporary approaches to definitions, diagnostic tools, notions of criminal responsibility and fitness to stand trial; and the use of psychological knowledge, theory, and research to guide reflective practice and build personal, professional resilience.

Investigate how police, courts, and corrections interact with people with mental disorders. You’ll use psychological theory to explore mental health issues that youth, Indigenous people, and women face in the system. Learn the symptoms. Build resilience.

Mental Health, Psychology and the Criminal Justice System

This subject introduces students to law, government, and criminal justice in Australia. It explores how laws are made, the influence of politics on law reform, the role of the media, protections for human rights, and the elements of criminal responsibility. It considers the historical treatment of First Nations peoples in Australia&#39;s legal system and the role that law plays in promoting justice and accountability. This knowledge provides a foundation for further study on criminal law and justice systems.

Law, Crime and Justice

Retail marketing is an exciting area of contemporary business. This course emphasizes attracting customers to a diversity of retail forms, and the elements which facilitate informed consumer choice. It is critical for all businesses (including manufacturers and wholesalers) to understand and utilise retail marketing theory to sustain retail brands. Through this approach you will develop strong foundations in specific aspects of retail marketing such as creating customer loyalty through visual merchandising, store design, price promotions, and merchandise assortment. You apply retail marketing theory to relevant and practical retail issues with these experiences providing you with a skill set essential to your business career. This course applies the principles of marketing to oneself. As such, broad topic areas include the self-marketing mix, self-marketing research, self-marketing tactics and implementation and self-marketing evaluation. In doing so, students learn how to develop, manage and sustain positive self-images/brand that are well-received in the &quot;real world&quot;, both on a professional and personal basis. New business ventures typically start with no recognised brand name, no customers and no market reputation. Without a strong brand and effective promotion the new venture is likely to fail. One of the key challenges for new ventures is to create awareness of their business offering, and to build customer interest in the new business enterprise. Potential customers must be converted to actual customers by building their desire to purchase the new venture&#39;s product or service. This course provides an introductory smorgasbord of creative and cost-effective promotional techniques in the special context of new business ventures, small and family businesses. In the case of self-employed professionals, building a personal brand is imperative to differentiate your business offering to stand out from your competitors and build increased customer loyalty. This course provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully build their brand, utilise their social networks, and employ other cost-effective promotional tools to communicate with their customers. Branding and Promoting New Business Ventures

In the current dynamic economic environment, both on a national and international scale, corporations face numerous dynamic challenges that requires informed decision-making for national and global business operations, as well as strategic solutions to ensure sustained competitiveness. This course aims to equip students with the essential knowledge and analytical skills within the framework of corporate decision-making, encompassing both the individual company and the broader industry. By utilising real-world case studies at both national and global levels, participants of this course will learn to identify these challenges and formulate effective decision-making to minimise business risks and costs, while also capitalising on potential opportunities. This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental knowledge and the business implications of trade and strategy in an international context. A number of themes are prominent, including the globalisation of business and trade, strategy and its application to global business in its many forms, the multiple reasons why nations trade, commodity composition of trade, foreign exchange rates, trade and development strategy, investment across borders and global environmental issues. The application of trade and capital flow knowledge between countries will support student understanding of the global business environment.
