- Identify and apply key maritime law principles
- Communicate legal thought in a clear, direct and professional manner

This unit is divided into 12 modules of study. Module 1 provides an introduction to sources of maritime law in Australia and gives an overview of relevant concepts of national law and international law as they are pertinent to shipping. Module 2 continues on the theme of international law with the international law of the sea. Module 3 then considers legal framework on international carriage of passengers by sea.
Modules 4-8 focus on the challenges of carriage of goods by sea and the question of the carriers liability. This is a careful consideration of how the law allows for the efficient and regular international transportation of goods. Modules 9-11 cover some traditional aspects of maritime law that may arise in connection with carriage of goods by sea.
