About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Communicate the fundamentals of information systems and their role within digital health
- Evaluate implementation models and critical success factors for introducing an information system specific organisational context
- Critically evaluate the technical and human issues that need to be considered when developing a health information system
- Analyse the relevance of different types of evaluation in the context of an ICT project in a healthcare context

In this subject you will examine the development, implementation, and maintenance of health care systems and explore systems theory as it applies to health information systems. You will analyse the life cycle of a health information system, including strategic and tactical information, planning and project management, and the impact on the organisation of each phase of the life cycle. You will evaluate both technical (infrastructure, hardware & software, Standards & Codes) and people issues (education & skill development, changes to roles) which need to be resolved in the process of implementing a successful health information system. You will also explore the role and impact of the informatics professional and the informatics/IT department within the health organisation.
