This subject prepares you for academic success at the start of your university studies. You will reflect on your own academic literacies necessary for your study and your new role as a pre-service teacher. This role includes the requirement to undertake national numeracy and literacy testing for initial teacher education students which is mandated by the Australian Government. You will begin your ‘portfolio of evidence’ which will develop as you progress through your teacher education course.
You will investigate and apply concepts of academic integrity, incorporating referencing conventions, and learn about online communication, the use of social media and other ethical aspects. You will develop your academic writing and practice these skills through a supported writing task. You will also learn about digital literacies and the use of technologies to support your academic work. In summary, the unit identifies and then elaborates on expectations in relation to a range of essential academic literacies and links to the professional application of these literacies for pre-service teachers.
