Professional Practice in Criminology
About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- effectively integrate and appropriately apply previous learning and knowledge to make and justify decisions in a real world context of work;
- apply a range of professional practice tools to support job search skills and professional standards;
- demonstrate workplace competencies such as professionalism, confidentiality, communication, responsibility for decision-making, and organisational, cultural and social awareness; and
- apply critical analysis and reflection to conduct ethical research, synthesise and evaluate complex information, problems, concepts, interpretations and theories to demonstrate cognitive and technical skills in a body of knowledge or practice.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
This professional practice unit exposes the learner to real-world industry problems within the criminal justice system. In collaboration with a broad range of industry partners, students will be provided with a working brief project to problem-solve real-world industry challenges. The unit also introduces each learner to a range of employment skills and the development of professional tools suitable for working within a profession involving criminology. This is a hands-on project-based unit with industry links already established by the unit coordinator.
Assessment 1 Oral Presentation: Relates to Learning Outcomes 2-4
Assessment 2 Project Report: 2000 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1,3-4
Assessment 3 Portfolio: 4000 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1-4- Oral Presentation (10%)

To enrol in this subject, you must be admitted into a degree.

To enrol in this subject you will need to pass UNE-CRIM100, UNE-CRIM101, UNE-CRIM104, UNE-CRIM190 and achieve a minimum GPA of 4.0.
You will also need to successfully complete a total of 12 UNE subjects (totaling 72 cps) including UNE-CRIM201 and UNE-CRIM244
Please note as UNE results are released after the close of enrolment date, your enrolment into this subject will be withdrawn if you do not receive a satisfactory result for these subjects.
