Of Gods, Heroes and Monsters: Foundation Myths of Antiquity

About this subject

  • Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:

    1. demonstrate a detailed understanding of ancient mythical narratives and the primary sources for these narratives;
    2. specify and critically analyse the patterns and themes of ancient mythology and the relationship between myths and the social, religious and political contexts of their production;
    3. apply critical analysis to ancient evidence and modern interpretation in accordance with discipline expectations of ancient history;
    4. produce clear and effective written work reflecting discipline expectations in ancient history;
    5. apply basic research skills in the field of ancient history, including use of digital resources; and
    6. develop cogent logical arguments (including the ability to select, synthesise and use evidence).
