Underpinning a child’s academic performance is their emotional wellbeing. As a teacher, you need a solid understanding of the key concepts in educational psychology that explain the importance of personal development (e.g. intellectual, social, moral and physical) when it comes to students being successful at school and able to function well in society. This subject will examine educational psychology theories such as the importance of ‘optimization’ and ‘flourishing’ in learning and the value of holistic psychology when it comes to motivating students in the classroom. The subject will encourage you to appreciate contemporary theories in educational psychology and importantly, to teach you about effective assessment, measurement, and evaluation procedures of student learning.
