About this subject

  • Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:

    1. demonstrate upper intermediate level listening and speaking skills in Japanese with coherence and accuracy and basic awareness of the generic structure of authentic spoken texts;
    2. demonstrate upper intermediate skills in reading and writing in Japanese with coherence and accuracy; consolidation of approximately 400-450 previously learned kanji and an additional 100-120 new kanji; and basic awareness of the generic structure of authentic written texts;
    3. apply upper intermediate knowledge of structures and lexico-grammar through the study of different types of texts or genres; and
    4. apply knowledge of further aspects of Japanese socio-linguistics and socio-culture relevant to inter-cultural communication at an upper intermediate level.
