The subject provides students with a deep understanding of the various dimensions, ideas and practices relating to successful leadership at the individual, group and organisational levels. Students will explore the cutting-edge academic research on leadership as well as learn practical skills directly from senior leaders in a range of fields. Skills developed in this unit will include the ability to build a strategic vision, to develop a sense of responsibility, to enhance group cohesion, and to influence and motivate a team to achieve a desirable end state. Students will also gain an understanding of how leadership differs across cultures, particularly between Eastern and Western societies. In the second half of the semester, the subject provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge they have gained throughout their program of study to a real world crisis. By participating in a dynamic simulation, students will be required to solve problems and find solutions to real world challenges. Students will be assigned to an executive team that includes students with different skill sets and knowledge.
