The practice of case management is a common approach used to respond to both offenders and victims in the criminal justice system, as well as people who are accessing services or support from Families and Community service providers. Globally, case management is used in relation to a broad range of people. For example, case managers may work specifically with youth at risk, sexual offenders, victims of family violence, people with addiction, homeless people, released prisoners etc. You will learn about the different risk-assessment, decision-making, referral tools that are used in case management and apply these tools to assessment tasks whilst being guided by the theory, principles, legislation and policies that are employed for case management in Victoria. Additionally, you will gain important skills in relation to communication, client assessment and the creation of case management plans in alignment with best practices.
- Learning Activity Portfolio Part A: Submit 2 of 3 learning activities from weeks 2 - 4 (2 x 250 words) (10%) Part B: Submit 2 of 3 learning activities from weeks 5 - 7 (2 x 250 words) (10%) (20%)
- Design a Case Management plan (2,500 words) (50%)
- Group presentation on a case management related topic (1000 words equivalent, per student) (30%)

- LAT-CPS-DEG-2026 - Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Psychological Science

Prerequisites: Students must have completed 120 credit points.
Past La Trobe University students who have previously completed LST2JCC (Justice and Community Case Management) are ineligible to enrol in this subject.
