What you'll learn

  1. Explore the various tools of assessment throughout Early Childhood Services.
  2. Identify the authentic assessment and diagnostic tools utilised locally for assessing and reporting in Early Childhood Education.
  3. Demonstrate quality observations and documentation to monitor, interpret, plan for, and reflect upon a child's interests, emerging development, thinking styles, social interactions, emotional status, physical abilities and capabilities.

  • This subject introduces students to the theories and strategies for developing authentic assessment and reporting in early childhood education. Students examine assessment and evaluation as an integral part of the teaching and learning process. They also explore the use of assessment for diagnostic and curriculum development purposes.

    • Part A: Critiquing Assessment Practices Diagnostic Task (200 word equivalent) (10%). This assessment task will be undertaken within the first 2 weeks of the term. Part B: Critiquing Assessment Practices (1800 word equivalent) (40%) (50%)
    • Communicating the implications of Assessment (2000 word equivalent). (50%)
