About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. apply a deep understanding of the Number and Algebra strand of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics and how to teach it to children of varying learning abilities
    2. interpret and validate children’s demonstration of their knowledge of number and algebra
    3. appraise social constructivist approaches to planning for mathematical learning and the development of numeracy
    4. develop a teaching plan based on the ‘big ideas’ of number and containing links with key concepts for teaching probability
    5. investigate and critique best practice for teaching and assessing Probability through the proficiencies of problem solving and reasoning.
