Planning an Arts Research Project
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- analyse the context of an issue in a field of media, creative arts or social inquiry
- evaluate a body of work and plan a project as the critical response to this body of work
- communicate how a project will contribute to addressing an issue of significance to the student, their discipline, an industry or community
- evaluate the ethical dimensions of the student’s planned project in relation to the university’s research ethics protocols.
- Developing a research plan
- Working with an academic supervisor
- Writing a methodology
- Review draft research proposals
- Reflections on project ethics
Students in this subject build on the skills and knowledge gained in Approaches to Arts Research, combined with their growing experience in their major area of study, to conceive, plan and design a feasible research project. Supported via seminars and discipline meetings with academic advisors, students will explore practices of project planning, engage with the ethical dimensions of conducting research, and undertake individual academic and creative research to produce a written proposal for a project to be undertaken either as part of their further study, or through their own professional practice.
