This subject provides students with a framework for understanding the field of international trade. The subject examines the environment for international trade and investment, particularly political, social, economic, technological, environmental and other factors that influence strategic firm-level plans and senior management decisions about a firms cross-border trade and investment activities. Students will be required to understand relevant macro-level international trade and investment theories and the global system and issues surrounding the conduct of international business from an organisational strategy and operational perspective. An applied understanding of international trade and investment will be encouraged through students analysing and examining the constraints affecting entry to new markets and specific market entry options and global business activities.

International Trade

International Trade: Negotiation and Agreement will build your knowledge and understanding of the core principles of international trade. You will need to demonstrate well-rounded critical and creative thinking skills, the ability to apply relevant theory, contrast historical and contemporary examples of trade agreements, and evaluate policy documentation and actions by state actors. In this course, you will have the opportunity to analyse and integrate key concepts in International Relations and International Political Economy. This course offers a conceptual framework covering public policy perspective on international trade, the impact of multilateral institutions and trade blocs on global business, foreign direct investment and management of multinational corporations. The course provides a basic foundation for understanding specialised courses in technology and the global economy, global marketing and entrepreneurship in a dynamic business environment.Students should not enrol in this course if they have previously completed 1005IBA Introduction to International Business and 2030IBA Global Business at Griffith University.

This course provides students with a framework for critical understanding the contextual, strategic and operational issues of export management. It covers the operational aspects of international trading and enhance students&#39; ability to apply integrated discipline knowledge to formulate an export plan and to deal with practical challenges such as exporting documentation, payment methods, financing options and legal considerations. International Business Environment

The aim of this subject is to provide an introduction to the concepts, principles and practice of exporting and importing goods. The subject is arranged in 12 modules. It starts by examining classical and modern theories of international trade. Marketing is an essential element of export practice and therefore a significant portion of this subject is devoted to market selection, market entry strategies, and product pricing decisions. In addition, this subject considers the role of logistics in value adding of products. A major area of concern for traders is the finance and payment for traded goods. This subject explores the mechanisms which facilitate modern-day trade within the international regulatory framework. Finally, the subject examines the common procedures and documentation involved in exporting and importing.

This subject will develop and enhance your understanding and appreciation of how constant and/or evolutionary changes to the international business environment influence the operations and conduct of domestic and cross border For-Profit and Not for Profit enterprises. You will examine key strategic and structural drivers and tools that support globalization and the establishment of multi-national entities. You will be exposed to models, approaches and challenges of successful cross-cultural management, negotiations, communications, and knowledge transfer.
