The environment currently faces multiple threats, including over-production, over-consumption, warfare and militaristic cultures, and its protection is a task for everyone. This subject offers you the opportunity to explore your own principles of environmentalism and how they relate to peace, and the concept of “make peace, plant a tree&quot;.You will learn how to engage in finding a personal connection to green living and environmental responsibility by constructing for yourself a ‘green practice path to sustainability’. You will explore how to effect real change through acting in your own spheres of existence while influencing wider changes in the world.This subject will also explore reducing harm to individuals and ecological systems; empathising with human and environmental suffering; gaining inspiration from green and peace thinkers and workers; and linking the green path of environmental peacebuilding to living in harmony with nature.

Environmental Peace

This subject introduces students to fundamental principles in international environmental law and examines certain important issues in this area at the global level. More specifically, the subject will critically analyse the significant principles involved in the operation of the international legal system and how the international community, through law and policy, responds to global and regional environmental issues. A sectoral approach will then be taken by examining the application of international environmental law in certain specific areas. The main focus will be on examining the law and policy which has been applied to deal with environmental problems in an international and transboundary context. Special reference to domestic laws and initiatives will be made in evaluating the impact of international environmental obligations on natural resource management.

International Environmental Law

This highly topical subject provides you with a broad understanding of environmental issues and the role of law both as part of the problem and as an attempt to provide solutions. You will examine constitutional issues, Commonwealth environmental legislation, common law remedies and likely future directions in environmental law. The legal regime is considered in the broader context of law and society. Throughout, you will build transferable critical thinking, legal reasoning and analytical skills to future proof your career.

Environmental Law

Planet Earth is undergoing vast anthropogenic induced environmental changes to its physical landscape. By holistically drawing upon basic physical and theoretical underpinnings from a range of scientific disciplines like geoscience, ecology, biogeography, meteorology, climatology, oceanography, and conservation biology, you will explore and understand the issues and physical impacts surrounding atmospheric and hydrological pollution, biodiversity loss, species extinctions, desertification, soil degradation, global climate change, and declining fisheries. The human impact on Earth&#39;s environment through population growth, the expansion of the urban environment, the global food crisis, and environmental economics, will be also addressed. Sustainable natural resource use is advocated by linking sound science with wise environmental stewardship.
