Professional Capabilities for a Digital World

This unit provides students the opportunity to explore various approaches to planning and managing information technology programs and projects. Students will consider issues relating to the development and implementation of technology based on various lifecycle models, frameworks and agile and waterfall methodologies. The main emphasis will relate to the use of agile and waterfall methods, tools, techniques, and processes for planning and managing IT programs and projects. This unit will also expand upon PMBoK [Project Management Body of Knowledge] concepts, scrum concepts and integrate several recent developments in relation to understanding the human side of IT project management, such as stakeholder analysis and human resources management.

This unit examines the challenges of digital technology governance in a modern organisational context. Students will develop an understanding of the importance of the alignment of an organisation&#39;s digital technology assets to the operations and strategy of its business functions. Students will explore techniques and tools for analysing and improving the degree of alignment between an organisation’s business functions and its digital technology assets. The role of architecture as an analysis and design framework for improving and maintaining the alignment between an organisation’s business functions and operations and its digital technology will be explored. Students will examine approaches, techniques and tools to analyse the structures, processes and instruments (e.g. review boards, design councils, etc.) used to govern and control digital technology investment and implementation and apply this knowledge to develop practical solutions for real world industry-based case studies. Students will also examine emerging technologies such as blockchain and their impact on alignment processes.

This unit is a capstone industry project unit that provides students with professionally focused learning experiences during their final year of study. Students work in a team, supervised to engage with the client(s) to identify and evaluate business needs and requirements and then propose and/or develop and implement solutions. It consolidates and integrates student learning with real world practice by applying principles and concepts pertaining to Business Digitalisation. Over 12 weeks students will have the opportunity to apply and develop their analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, technical and project management skills, to design, develop, and implement practical technology solutions for real world business problems.

Business Digitalisation Industry Project

This unit aims to teach students to develop a sense of professional responsibility in the ICT domain through exploring a range of social, organisational, legal, ethical and sustainable issues that professionals face in their careers in dynamic technology environments. Students are guided by ethical principles and frameworks and professional codes of conduct articulated by professional accrediting bodies.
