Topics include: algorithms and problem solving; testing methodologies; fundamental aspects of a programming language including data types, input/output, simple selection and iteration control structures, data structures, one-dimensional arrays; and introduction to the concepts involved in object-oriented programming.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Tackle the fundamentals of programming – from data structures to programming language and testing methodologies. Learn to create algorithms and use sequence, selection and iteration to solve problems.

Foundations of Programming

This subject provides an introduction to database design, implementation and management. Topics include data modelling, the relational model, SQL, logical and physical database design, database application design, transaction management, concurrency, recovery, security, database architectures and database administration. Databases

This unit aims to provide a general understanding of software development frameworks, and the practical experience and skills in using an important software development framework, with an emphasis on language interoperability, platform independence and software reuse using Microsoft .NET Framework.Murdoch University students should also note that Software Development Frameworks (ICT239) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed ICT239.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Software Development Frameworks

This unit is designed to develop the skills of problem solving and program design using an Object Oriented programming language. It assumes that you have passed an introductory unit in programming, such as ICT159 Foundations of Programming. This unit will use the Java language for practical work to develop your programming skills. Major topics include: algorithm design; procedural abstractions; the concepts of pre- and post-conditions; strings, arrays, introduction to object-oriented concepts including data abstraction, encapsulation, classes and object references, inheritance; introduction to recursion; streams and file input and output; the definition and use of common classes like lists, stacks and queues.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
