Principles of implementing and applying best practice will be discussed in relation to global quality management theories in conjunction with real-world corporate and project case studies. The complex relationships between quality and the various aspects of design and construction activities will also be discussed. This subject introduces the ocean environment and the role of maritime engineers in the design of maritime infrastructure. The subject covers essential elementary knowledge of marine sciences, types of marine crafts and maritime structures, marine systems, and ocean renewable energy technology. This subject will provide future maritime engineers with the core understanding required for the application of technical knowledge throughout their further studies.

Introduction to Maritime Science, Engineering and Technology

Evidence based Medication Safety Innovation will help you identify and analyse medication-safety issues encountered in a variety of clinical settings. You will initially learn about and appraise existing issues and interventions that attempt to improve the Quality Use of Medicines or address medication-safety issues. You will then devise innovative ideas to overcome these issues and develop evidence-based solutions that could be implemented in the real world.Particular emphasis is placed on the combined skills of practice-based mitigation of medication-safety risks, while using research skills and knowledge, to intervene in identified problematic areas in an evidence-based manner.

Evidence Based Medication Safety Innovation

This subject provides a comprehensive introduction to contemporary healthcare quality and safety with a focus on patient-centred care. You will explore the various definitions of healthcare quality and safety, and the foundations of patient safety and quality improvement design within the healthcare arena and their own individual practice. Using quality and safety as a framework, you will examine trends in critical incidents in healthcare that result in adverse outcomes for patients. Applying methods to assess the delivery of quality patient-centred care and critically appraising work practices on an individual level will provide a basis for identifying current gaps in quality and safety. This subject also introduces assessment tools and analytic methods for quality and safety in healthcare and the role of organisational change preparing for successful initiatives in the workplace intended to improve quality and safety. “Good care is more than the absence of bad” (Balding, 2013)

Healthcare Quality and Safety: A Patient-Centred Approach

In this subject students will examine: IPng Protocol and its features; Routing protocols like RIPv1/v2, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and their performance under different operating environments; Transmission Control Protocol and flow control algorithms; UDP protocol and its uses.

Intermediate Network Engineering

This subject introduces students to sources of law affecting building projects (including the judicial system, common and statute law, contract law, torts and dispute resolution) in relation to the various types of contracts available for project delivery. In teaching students how to utilise their knowledge of construction law and contracts in relation to the various types of procurement strategies, contracts and dispute resolution strategies/methodologies, this unit also aims to enable students to learn how to assess, highlight and address the competing priorities of time, cost, quality, risk transfer and risk mitigation to determine the most appropriate form of project procurement strategies for a specific project.Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. Construction Contracts and Procurement

This subject was previously known as Residential Construction.
In this subject students will be introduced to the types, components and practices of low-rise domestic construction. In this overview of basic constructional materials used in domestic construction students will apply aspects of applied science to relevant building types by examining the properties of matter, wave motion, heat, light and sound). Students will also evaluate solar effects on buildings. Fieldwork is a component of this subject.

Low Rise Construction

Fire has shaped the evolution of the world we see around us and is fundamental to life. Yet wildfire can also be devastating to human and ecological communities. Today, more and more of us are living in fire prone areas, and wildfires are behaving in new, less predictable ways.  So how do we live with fire - as individuals, and as communities? How do we plan for fire, and how do we respond when fires happen? How do we ensure that we are using fire in a sustainable way? What are the trade-offs involved in fire management? And what might we learn from indigenous Australians, who have used fire skilfully on this continent for over 40,000 years?  Living with Fire is for anyone interested in these complex but practical and fascinating questions about fire in our lives today. You will learn what causes fire and why wildfires behave the way they do. As well as the science of fire, you will learn about the human dimensions of fire and the complex trade-offs involved in fire management between the needs of culture and society, and ecology and biodiversity. You will learn how to evaluate your own level of fire risk and what you can do to plan for fire as an individual. You will also become more empowered to participate in conversations about how we plan for and respond to fire in our local communities.
