This course offers fundamentals in software engineering with two specialisations available: Game Programming and Artificial Intelligence. You will explore the field of software engineering, developing the fundamentals of algorithm and data structure design, software engineering project management, and ethical development and research practices. The structure of this diploma in software development consists of a common software engineering core, specialisation and elective subjects allowing you to sharpen your technical skills, industry knowledge and proficiency in developing functioning applications. In this subject you are introduced to the steps involved in designing and creating a software solution to simple real-life problems. To enable students to design a program, the subject introduces the way to break down the problems into smaller parts and analyse them methodically by using simple techniques such as drawing flowcharts. You will be introduced to the Python programming language as a means of creating executable program code to implement working software solutions.

This unit enables students to stand out as effective business analysts in agile software development and implementation teams. Students learn how to apply agile methods and problem-solving tools and techniques that assist in the analysis of complex, socio-technical problems which typify the nature of organisational information systems, and the work of business and information analysts. Drawing on real-world cases, the unit encompasses the technical, social and human dimensions of information systems problem solving. The value of uncovering multiple perspectives and multiple objectives, that are likely to exist in complex problem situations and which could impact agile information systems projects, is also analysed.

This course introduces you to the principles and practice of developing applications using C# programming language. Web Development Technologies

This subject is designed to provide you opportunity to gain knowledge and skills necessary to analyse, design and implement complex software engineering projects.
You should learn to analyse and design fairly complex real-life systems, working as teams. You are also made aware of current software engineering standards and processes. You are also taught to consider qualitative aspects including maintainability, extensibility, reusability and robustness in every stage of the software-engineering life-cycle. 
At the end of the subject you should be able to combine top-down and bottom-up approaches to software design and choose the most appropriate process considering the underlying technology, project duration, the level of risks and the customer expectations.

Navigate the quality, reusability and effectiveness of the software engineering lifecycle. Design, refine and assess complex systems. Be objective and develop solutions for actual problems. Use top-down and bottom-up design methods to find best fit.

Software Engineering Fundamentals

This unit focuses on mobile application development using mobile development techniques and environments. You should already be very familiar with the basic building blocks of computer programs: variables, loops, branching structures, functions, and the like. This subject will focus on tools and techniques for software development, the process of designing, delivering, and maintaining high-quality software. You will develop substantially complex software using design patterns in the C++ programming language, and you will learn about the realities of software development from industry experts.

Professional Software Development

Creating websites that scale to serve hundreds of millions of users with acceptable response times is challenging. The main focus of this subject is on cloud computing concepts and tools needed to make websites scalable. This subject assumes the fundamental web technologies have already been taught in the prerequisite subjects. The subject will cover topics in the cloud computing concept and technologies, such as cloud repository, virtualisation, the framework for frontend and backend development, API, web server storage, and the management of application development (CI/CD) This subject will also cover the fundamental of cloud computing platform and its features.

Cloud-Based Web Application

This subject introduces you to system analysis and design with Object-oriented (OO) modelling techniques for software system engineering. Major topics include introduction to software development process, requirements modelling, domain modelling, behavioural modelling, structural modelling and dynamic modelling. You will learn the use of Unified Modelling Language (UML) for the analysis and design phases of systems. You will gain the ability to apply knowledge of basic science and software engineering fundamentals to software systems analysis and design.

System Analysis and Design

Modern software development is highly collaborative. Teams of developers work together to take software from conception into production and continue to develop the software based on feedback from its use. This introduces a number of engineering challenges, as teams must ensure that the program works and is well designed, even while it is being modified by many people at once. Many of the software engineering practices and tool chains that are core to a developer&#39;s work are designed to support the collaborative nature of programming. In this subject you will work in teams to develop different features of a class-wide development project, to learn how software engineers design, build, deploy, and modify large programs together. Introducing you to key concepts, including distributed version control, continuous integration, deployment, and delivery practices, as well as agile development and software design, the unit will help you to hone invaluable applied skills.

Software Development Studio 2

Software development is a collaborative undertaking that requires the integration of different technologies to build elegant and intuitive solutions. This subject introduces you to the fundamentals of software production. Helping you to develop a strong understanding of how data is represented and manipulated within a computer system, you will solve problems in a series of individual and collaborative software development tasks. Your capacity for critical thinking, analysis and complex problem solving will be extended as you build interactive software in a high-level programming language, applying your skills to effectively communicate design choices.
