In this subject you are introduced to the steps involved in designing and creating a software solution to simple real-life problems. To enable students to design a program, the subject introduces the way to break down the problems into smaller parts and analyse them methodically by using simple techniques such as drawing flowcharts. You will be introduced to the Python programming language as a means of creating executable program code to implement working software solutions.

This subject introduces you to system analysis and design with Object-oriented (OO) modelling techniques for software system engineering. Major topics include introduction to software development process, requirements modelling, domain modelling, behavioural modelling, structural modelling and dynamic modelling. You will learn the use of Unified Modelling Language (UML) for the analysis and design phases of systems. You will gain the ability to apply knowledge of basic science and software engineering fundamentals to software systems analysis and design.

System Analysis and Design

This subject provides a modern view on how to assess, evaluate and measure software and systems quality. In this subject, you will gain hands-on, practical experience with planning, strategising, designing, measuring and assessing software and systems quality. Topics include manual and automated testing using industry-recognised techniques and frameworks, performance testing, metrics for measuring test progress and software quality and complexity, and guidance on how international standards can be utilised to enhance software quality. The industry-based roles, processes and practices associated with software testing and measurement are taken as models to describe and demonstrate the types of tasks and practices undertaken by professionals within this sector of the IT industry.

Software Measurement and Testing

Throughout your studies to date, you’ve learned how to program a computer. You should already be very familiar with the basic building blocks of computer programs: variables, loops, branching structures, functions, and the like. This subject will focus on tools and techniques for software development, the process of designing, delivering, and maintaining high-quality software. You will develop substantially complex software using design patterns in the C++ programming language, and you will learn about the realities of software development from industry experts.

Professional Software Development

This subject is an introduction to mobile application development, including programming paradigms, models, technologies and platforms. The unique considerations for programming with mobile devices will be studied, including application architectures, mobile user interface issues, context-aware computing, the use of mobile sensing, middleware, mobile data management, and programming with wireless connections. Development of a range of mobile and wearable form factors will be discussed, from smartphones, to tablets of varying sizes. You will select one major platform as their specialisation to develop applications and implement their major programming assignment.

Mobile Application Development

Creating websites that scale to serve hundreds of millions of users with acceptable response times is challenging. The main focus of this subject is on cloud computing concepts and tools needed to make websites scalable. This subject builds on students&#39; prior experience with programming and information technology systems. The subject will cover topics in the cloud computing concept and technologies, such as cloud repository, virtualisation, the framework for frontend and backend development, API, web server storage, and the management of application development (CI/CD).
