The subject serves as an introductory platform to business processes. It offers both conceptual and practical guidance for achieving competitive advantage by managing business processes. The Management of Business processes involves the deliberate and collaborative design, management and goal definition of end-to-end sets of activities that create value for customers.Key aspects of business processes at the management, operational and support level are investigated and supporting theories explored looking at the work of Taylor, Harmon, Davenport, Hammer and Porter to name some. By taking a holistic view of the organisation, that transcends vertical, horizontal, external and geographical boundaries, this unit provides a road map for guiding organisations to analyse, re-design and improve business processes. This course is designed to explore contemporary social and ethical challenges facing global corporations in our increasingly globalised and inter-connected world. Through analysis of recent developments in Corporate Social Responsibility, triple-bottom-line accounting, and sustainability requirements, students will examine issues such as ethics and leadership, the shareholder-stakeholder debate, corruption, the changing trade environment as well as how modern corporations are dealing with the challenges of poverty, climate change, and dangerous conflict situations. The aim is to increase students&#39; ability to apply critical analysis and ethical principles to practical problems that they will face in the workplace and to engage with and influence ongoing debates on the future role of global corporations in contributing to a more prosperous and sustainable global environment.

eChallenge

This course adopts a system thinking perspective to explore the challenges and opportunities of managing in complex organisational and social environments. Building on skills and knowledge gained throughout the program, the course provides a framework in which to explore the essential `messiness? of living systems and the complexity and unpredictability of outcomes. Assessment will focus on the use of environmental and organisational information to diagnose problems, to propose alternative solutions, and then consider possible outcomes to complex business problems.

Systems Thinking for a Complex World

This course explores approaches to managing conflict and change in the workplace. Students will reflect upon and develop their own conflict management skills, and practice analysing the conflict management and negotiation skills of others. The course will consider theory and research as well as practical management tools and techniques for dealing with conflict and change. Students will apply these skills and techniques to case studies and real-world scenarios, in order to critically assess successful change proposals and change implementation practices. This course explores approaches to managing conflict and change in the workplace. Managing Conflict and Change

This course focuses on the analysis and synthesis underpinning sound strategic management. Strategic management is concerned with the long-term direction, scope, and performance of an organization. Whether the overall strategy of an organization emerges from the interplay of functional departments or is a grand plan devised by one group, its success is contingent on the fit that is made between the organization and the relevant environmental dynamics. The actions of the organization are simultaneously a result of these dynamics and a cause of them. Hence a continuous, accurate analysis and synthesis of environmental and organizational interactions is a critical component of a successful strategy.

Strategic Management

The objective of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of International Management. The course focuses on the foundations of international management, the role of culture, cross-cultural communication and negotiations, MNC strategies and structures, and international human resource management. There will be a focus on appropriate theory and the course will aim to provide opportunities for the practical implementation of the main concepts covered.

Managing Across Cultures

This subject considers the psychology surrounding leadership: by addressing what constitutes effective leadership and how leadership skills might be improved. It differs from standard business courses in leadership, of which there are, of course, many. In this unit we focus specifically on psychological processes (what is that is clear and distinct in the psychological make up of a &#39;leader&#39; for example). The Unit is split into 8 modules and each of these has a separate and discreet topic. Whilst there are core readings for each module which you must read you are also strongly advised to review the additional reading as a way of enhancing your learning for this unit. Each of the eight sections introduces a key reading in the area of concern, and the introductory text and key reading complement one another in forming the core teaching materials.
