The Associate Degree in Agribusiness is an industry-focused program that prepares people to become dynamic, creative, and adaptable practitioners with the skills and knowledge to ensure that the business of agriculture is profitable and sustainable in a modern economic climate. It is an ideal steppingstone for those currently working in agriculture who wish to move into leadership and management roles, or a great foundation for those wishing to enter the industry. The program combines business management, planning, finance, people management, innovation, and primary production in an authentic learning approach, utilising applied, blended, and online interaction. The program content has been developed in consultation with industry experts and they are actively involved in its delivery. A key feature of the program is the integrated learning approach that applies an array of experiential education opportunities such as site visits, field work, case studies, simulated work environments, and data-driven decision-making. This aims to enhance students’ problem solving, communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills by allowing them to ‘learn through practice’. It has been designed to make university study a little less daunting—and a lot more practical. The program is available for full-time and part-time study and is delivered through a combination of online study, tutorials, and practical workshop. This subject will introduce you to the major concepts and analytical tools used in the theory and practice of accountability and financial management in a business organisation. It is designed to provide you with an understanding of: • the basis of finance concepts including interest rate and the time value of money; the application of time value of money in evaluating different financialassets such as bonds and equity;• accountability and the application of financial management concepts in identifying and assessing environmental, social and governance risks; and• the scope and nature of the finance function and its role within management. This subject also develops your practical skills in the identification and analysis of financial problems and prepares you to provide advice to users on their decision making and the risks involved, including ESG risks. Specifically, this unit explains the relationship between risk and returns while considering the role and objectives of accountability, financial management and capital budgeting. It introduces students to the role and function of the capital markets, the various sources of finance and the accountability of the actors involved in the process.

This subject introduces you to leadership theories, concepts and practices and allows you to explore your own leadership style through the completion of a formal individual behavioural profile and subsequent debrief. You will also examine how emotional intelligence aspects inform and affect your leadership style and the impact on others around you. You will apply different leadership styles and techniques in realistic scenarios, and reflect on the appropriateness and effectiveness of the styles and techniques. Through these learning activities, you will build the knowledge and skills required to be able to lead and interact effectively with people in a variety of settings, and to guide your own development in future leadership roles.In conjunction with the discipline theory, this subject builds on concepts of learning through practice in Year 1 of study by introducing you to more complex learning experiences. You will be introduced to:- discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. This will include authentic and purposeful, industry-related experiences - concepts of managing effective relationships and communicating with others - the development and use of adaptive leadership skills and how these skills relate to innovative and entrepreneurial practice- the nature of responsible, accountable and reflective workplace skills, and creative and critical thinking relevant to para-professional practice.You will exercise self-awareness, initiative and judgement to manage yourself and professional relationships effectively. The application of tacit knowledge and capabilities will be reflected in a Practice Manual.

This subject is about understanding why and how leaders influence change. The focus of the subject is increasing the effectiveness of leadership and change management skills at an individual and organisation levels. Leadership and change management are increasingly seen to be key factors affecting the performance of contemporary organisations and are important areas of study in the fields of management and organisational behaviour. Effective leadership and change management are important to professional practices, multinational organisations, the public sector, and not-for-profit organisations.  Leadership is what makes things happen. This subject explores conventional and critical perspectives on leadership and examines the practice of leadership in diverse organisational contexts. Effective leadership requires a thorough knowledge of theory and a range of practical skills to support people in achieving organisational objectives. The subject also covers the personal aspects of leadership, including leaders as relationship builders and organisational shapers.  Change is said to be the only constant in 21st -century organisations. Effective change management requires strong diagnosis skills linked to the history, context, challenges, and opportunities faced by an organisation. This subject will integrate theoretical and practical aspects of change management to enhance capabilities in the design, development, and implementation of change management strategies. It will examine theoretical aspects from both traditional and critical perspectives.

Organisations are composed of people. The study of organisational culture is, therefore, fundamental to understanding how organisations work. The primary purpose of this subject is to enable you to learn how people relate to each other and work together in organisations through theoretical perspectives on, and practical approaches to human relations and organisational behaviour. The subject will draw upon current concepts from critical management and organisation studies – a field of research engages with a range of disciplinary perspectives including: philosophy, social psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science and economics). Hence, you will benefit from a contemporary research-informed approach to the study of human relations and organisational behaviour. The topics in the study schedule is divided into three modules, each of which building on the previous module. The first module (individuals in organisations: weeks 1-3) begins with a focus on understanding how individuals make sense of their experiences in organisations by examining theories and everyday examples of organisational situations and sense-making, individual identities, personalities and emotions. The second module (organisational groups: weeks 4-7) investigates conceptual and practical approaches to the analysis of human relations at the group or team level, including culture, power and influence, leadership and motivation. Finally, the third module (organisational culture: weeks 8-12) draws on theories and practices of how organisational communications, knowledge, bureaucracy, change and design influence peoples’ relationships with each other and with their organisations.Through your active participation in this subject, you will understand, integrate, and apply knowledge on how and why people act the way they do in organisations and learn how this knowledge can be used to improve everyday approaches to managing people and organisations.

This subject introduces you to the concepts, applications and practice of management. You will be introduced to the fundamentals of management that are vital for the successful operation of any business. You will be exposed to a widely accepted body of knowledge, introducing you to contemporary issues in the practice of management. From various journals and publications the opinions and experiences of both practitioners and academics will be emphasised. The subject is designed to be suitable for students at different stages in their careers and at different levels in the organisation. If you are new to a management or supervisory position this subject will provide you with grounding in management. If you are already employed in a management position, you may acquire some new ideas, refresh your memory or even affirm that you are doing things correctly. At present, you may not be employed in a management or supervisory position. In that case, consider the subject as advanced preparation for a period when you may be assigned a managerial or supervisory position. The specific content of the subject has been designed to be sufficiently broad and comprehensive to prepare you for a range of different business settings. You will notice that the subject has been named Management, not specifically Maritime Management. The principles and practice of management are applied across all industries. To make the material as relevant as possible you will be asked to use your organisation as a focus to answer activities and questions.

This subject offers an investigative insight into the fundamentals of management. Encompassing platform leadership and organisation theory, a brief history of management theory will be followed by investigations into different theories of organisations. You will explore topics under three key areas being: underpinning knowledge/theories; applying theory to practice; contemporary and future management issues. You will be offered the opportunity to advance your understanding of fundamental management principles which can be applied in various organisational settings, ranging from private sector entities to NGOs, public sector taxpayer-funded organisations and start-ups. All students will be invited and expected to discuss topics from across the scope of this subject and the management discipline. To support discussions, assorted readings and other learning material will focus on foundational management approaches and management theories. You’ll be expected to read widely, being aware of current business affairs and applying capabilities associated with self directed learning. You are invited to bring your ideas and questions to workshops for deeper exploration of topics of interest with the group. You will explore management theory and review case studies for the purpose of strengthening your ability to identify and address business problems and research possible solutions. You will explore ways and means to create and sustain a workplace where people are given the best opportunities to succeed and in doing so, support organisational goals. Embedded in each of the modules are case studies to support and direct discussions during workshop sessions.

In Australia, self-employment now makes up a third of the workforce, and small business is considered to be the backbone of the Australian economy.To navigate this landscape, people require flexibility, autonomy, and small business skills.The aim of this subject is to develop your understanding of how to package and develop your skills to meet market needs, and to design flexible and sustainable career pathways and strategies for running a small business.In this subject you will you explore freelancing and small business sectors, including small business management theories, concepts, and strategies. Through independent and collaborative research, during the subject you will have the opportunity to develop a personal plan for future employment (within or outside of the traditional job market) and to work towards enhancing the effectiveness of a real-world small business.

That is, they are part of a broader social system.Society generally, and different groups of stakeholders specifically, expect an organisation to accept various responsibilities with respect to how it interacts with, and how it is accountable to, different stakeholders. This subject introduces you to the creative industries and the roles of the so-called &#39;creative class&#39; and creative entrepreneur in shaping communities, urban development and digital economies in recent decades. By delving critically into the discourse of creative entrepreneurship, you will question what creativity is, how it has been used in the service of capitalism, and what dissenting voices oppose creativity. You will also explore first-hand how creativity can counter business-as-usual to forge new forms of democracy and engage in action for social equality and circular economies – or not! You will apply your critical lens to identify and develop a creative opportunity and learn the skills to develop a creative concept. You will also build communication, collaboration, and project management skills in this subject to further a creative vision. You will engage in group work for the final assessment to build these skills.

Business planning for successful organisations relies on both strategic and operational plans that inform and guide day to day activities and processes. Strategic planning concepts include medium to long term planning, vision, missions, values and objectives of an organisation. This subject explores how strategic planning informs operational planning, with a strong focus on how operational actions and activities are formulated and decided upon. It investigates approaches that underpin data-informed decision-making and planning including being able to identify and incorporate organisational challenges, opportunities and recommendations for improvements. You will engage in analysing, interpreting and evaluating data, information and operating context using business tools such as graphing, SWOTs, and business model canvases to inform operational planning.
