It enables you to understand the key components of an integrated logistics system, such as procurement, inventory management, transport, warehousing, and customer services, whilst viewing the system synergistically. Central to an integrated logistics system is the customers: by studying the trade-offs between customer services and costs discussed in this subject, you will be able to contribute positively to the logistics management activities in any organisation.

This subject considers supply chain management as a holistic logistics management process across the full spectrum of business activities, from the sourcing of raw materials from suppliers to the delivery of goods and services to the final customers and consumers. The subject provides a synthesis of the many critical facets of supply chain management. You will formulate appropriate strategies to enhance overall efficiency and responsiveness through optimisation of supply network design and logistics operations.This subject includes a Work Integrated Learning experience. Business Logistics

This subject provides students with a good understanding of individual sectors in the maritime industry. It introduces the maritime industry’s history, maritime geography and the concept of maritime transport in facilitating international trade. This subject covers various maritime sectors such as shipping, shipbuilding, repairs and maintenance, ports, offshore energy, maritime tourism, maritime governance and defence and Law enforcement. Finally, key contemporary issues related to the maritime industry are addressed.

This subject provides an introduction to quantitative methods that can be used in industry. You will acquire advanced spreadsheet and database modelling skills. The subject will introduce static and dynamic models of supply chains and logistics systems. Specifically it will apply transport and transhipment models to optimise supply chains.
The subject will enhance your appreciation of logistics and the usefulness of mathematical and statistical models in solving logistics problems. You will learn to think systematically about the fundamental processes involved and to evaluate the performance of a supply chain as a system. Technology-enabled supply chains are becoming increasingly effective, efficient, and transparent. In the future scenario of smart supply chains, a supply chain in the real world will be simulated by its digital twin deployed in a cloud computing platform. Real-time data in factories, warehouses, and transport vehicles will be collected and processed by Internet of Things (IOT) devices, and then sent to the supply chain’s digital twin. The data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) models behind the digital twin will analyse the data, simulate the supply chain processes in the real word, and help us to make informed decisions for supply chain management, such as inventory control and redeployment for supply chain disruptions, dynamic management of suppliers, and fast responses to customers’ complaints. In this subject you will learn how to model and design smart supply chains to enable data driven decision making, optimisation of operations, and adaptation to changing market conditions. Using authentic case studies and practical digital tools, you will develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to identify problems in the smart supply chains and develop practical solutions to address these problems.

Supply Chain Analytics And Digitalisation

This course will provide students with a detailed understanding of the nature, process, coordination and management of business logistics in achieving sustainable business outcomes. Current issues considered include: warehousing and packaging, transport and its management, supply network designing for material/service/information flows; performance measurement and the engagement with external logistics service providers, logistics in a carbon constrained environment; scheduling in transport and service industries, and redesigning material and service flows in supply chains/networks. International Business Logistics

The aim of this subject is to examine the processes, functions and strategies required by organisations to acquire goods, services and equipment from other organisations. The subject covers three broad dimensions of the procurement function within organisations. Firstly, the subject familiarises you with the procurement processes employed by organisations in both the public and private sectors. Secondly, the subject discusses strategic decision-making in a range of procurement-related issues that have a direct impact on how an organisation operates. Thirdly, the subject examines the supplier-related tasks of purchasing professionals, including supplier selection and management.

This subject will provide you with an understanding of how organisations manage the supply chain and logistics processes associated with manufactured and purchased goods, ensuring the successful flow of materials between organisations and external suppliers. The logistics aspects and methodologies you will be exposed to include manufacturing demand planning, inventory and stock control, packaging, warehousing, distribution networks, transportation, value chains and managing supplier relationships. You will also consider how current and future use of technologies and automated processes in the logistics environment can be utilised to achieve logistics improvements for the organisation. In conjunction with the discipline theory, this subject builds on concepts of learning through practice in Year 1 of study by introducing you to more complex learning experiences. You will be introduced to:- discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. This will include authentic and purposeful, industry-related experiences - concepts of managing effective relationships and communicating with others - the development and use of adaptive leadership skills and how these skills relate to innovative and entrepreneurial practice- the nature of responsible, accountable and reflective workplace skills, and creative and critical thinking relevant to para-professional practice.You will exercise self-awareness, initiative and judgement to manage yourself and professional relationships effectively. The application of tacit knowledge and capabilities will be reflected in a Practice Manual.

Topics covered include: the role of port authorities and legislative matters; the regulations and codes governing vessel operations within a port; Harbour Master&#39;s powers and Harbour Master&#39;s Directions; the technical aspects of port operations, including mooring, berthing and anchoring operations, cargo handling equipment and storage, handling and transfer of various cargo types; environmental and safety aspects of port operations.
