Students will be introduced to the rapidly expanding and influential field of information technology which comprises various types of technologies in computers (both hardware and software) and computer networks. It is therefore relevant to students in a wide range of disciplines: for examples, health sciences, business, engineering and technology. Students will be taught the fundamental principles of computer operations, different types of input/output and storage devices, computer networks including Local and Wide area networks, information systems, Database, the Internet, the World Wide Web and HTML. Students will acquire the knowledge and practical skills in information technology and be able to apply them to their field of study.

In this subject, you will work on an applied technologies project that will enable you to demonstrate problem-solving and design optimisation skills. Your discipline related project will include developing design options, carrying out a cost-benefit analysis and recommending a solution that is optimised within safety sustainability requirements. You will scope and define your own project. This subject introduces you to the following: - discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. Understanding how the Internet affords us new and different ways of communicating is, therefore, essential. This subject will enable you to become an effective and sophisticated user of digital and social media, able to deploy techniques, technologies and underlying concepts for online communication, collaboration and media creation.

In this subject, you will learn about the procedural nature of cyber security and the tools defined by the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP). You will analyse the effectiveness of threat and vulnerability mitigation through use of contemporary cyber security frameworks. You will be exposed to mitigation strategies, operational controls and countermeasures needed to address various threats and vulnerabilities. Upon completion of this subject you will be able to apply your cyber security knowledge with the relevant tools and techniques to support and make improvements to business operations.In conjunction with the discipline theory, this subject builds on concepts of learning through practice in Year 1 of study by introducing you to more complex learning experiences. Cloud Computing is a large-scale distributed computing paradigm which has become a driving force for information technology over the past several years. You should explore different architectural models of cloud computing, the concepts of virtualisation and cloud orchestration. This subject is one of three subjects in the Technologies Options group. Completing all three will provide a specialisation in Technologies. It is designed to provide students with a framework for developing and implementing digital solutions to contemporary issues in education. It has a pedagogical grounding that looks specifically at learning rather than the technological tools and platforms themselves. It is designed to give students the critical literacies required to assess the merit of such tools, use them to design and build robust solutions to everyday problems and evaluate their suitability for the chosen task.
