This subject is a self-directed, fully on-line introductory subject, that uses patient cases to develop your research skills to make evidence-based decisions This subject introduces important concepts and develops skills in evidence-based medicine, asking and answering well-articulated clinical questions, and critical review of research literature. You will also develop evidence-based practice skills such as framing an answerable research question and search strategies for a patient&#39;s unique circumstances. You will use medical databases, and learn how to identify high-quality evidence. The skills developed in this subject will enhance independent clinical decision-making.

Evidence Based Pharmacotherapeutic Practice

Maintenance of food security and public health requires vigilance in the food supply chain based on knowledge of the physiology, ecology and epidemiology of food-borne pathogens including bacteria, viruses and parasites. This subject focuses on enhancing depth of knowledge of food-borne pathogens for Master of Applied Science students within the areas of Microbiology and Food Safety. Students will be provided content on advanced topics of microbial hazards in foods. This includes provision of reading content on specific sub-topics of food-related public health, food-borne pathogens, epidemiology and persistence of food-borne pathogens, and methods for routine sampling and detection. Knowledge gained will be supported and enriched by self-directed learning activities. These include recorded lectures, online quizzes, assessment and interpretation of research literature regarding microbial hazards in food, and a focused literature review on a topic of choice in this area.

Foodborne Pathogens

In this subject, you’ll explore the critical roles of leaders, managers, governing bodies, staff, consumers, and the community in delivering safe, high-quality healthcare services. Effective governance structures, frameworks and systems will be evaluated, emphasising safety and quality requirements. By understanding leadership dynamics and stakeholder engagement, you’ll learn approaches to contribute to improved healthcare outcomes. You will also gain safety and quality perspectives from healthcare and other industries worldwide that you can apply into practice. Throughout your learning you will critique approaches and explore best practices. Additionally, you’ll learn to address challenges and barriers within healthcare systems, equipping you with practical problem-solving skills. This subject prepares you to make a positive impact on healthcare quality and safety.

Healthcare Systems, Safety and Quality

This subject allows students to develop the methodological framework and tools by which a research project on a contemporary healthcare management issue can be undertaken. Students will conceptualise and prepare their project applying the values and principles of research integrity, considering risk, benefit and consent issues. Students will gain the skills to appraise the application and matching of methods to research questions. Students will have opportunities to engage in industry case studies about management of ethical issues and research protocol development.

Research Methods in Health Management

Explores the changes occurring in the structure and delivery of health services as a result of the digital transformation that has occurred across the industry. The subject considers the impact of such technology on consumers, communities, health professionals and health services. The subject will explore the role of data, networks, wearables and other technologies in healthcare.

Digital Health

Theories of regulation, governance and national standards for accreditation are reviewed to provide a foundation for organisational management requirements and clinical systems for effective, sustainable high-quality healthcare. Healthcare organisations need for effective understanding of and approaches to risk management, interprofessional practice and continuous quality improvement are reviewed. Analysis will investigate the effectiveness of clinical governance systems for assessing, monitoring, and improving management and clinical systems. To operationalise these requirements, this subject reviews the overarching National Model Clinical Governance Framework (NMCGF) and National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards to determine appropriate systems for clinical governance, accountability and clinical performance and effectiveness. This involves the review and application of the NSQHS Clinical Governance Standard.

Clinical Governance in Health Care

The subject aims to promote awareness of the importance of Health and Physical Education (HPE) in the curriculum from a generalist teacher&#39;s perspective, and provide confidence in teaching its concepts at a primary school level. It seeks to prepare primary school pre-service teachers to teach generalist level physical education and other physical activities to primary school children. It also aims to prepare primary school pre-service teachers to teach health education and health promotion to children, parents, staff and the wider school community whilst giving pre-service teachers knowledge of and developing their capacity to discuss and analyse contemporary aspects of health and wellbeing; as well as an ability to work with others who may have health and well-being issues. Evidence-based sources will be used to develop knowledge of the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and interpersonal dimensions and will be applied to a range of topics covered in the health and physical education curriculum, for example: drugs, resilience, nutrition and safety issues. The interpersonal skills of communication and conflict resolution will also be developed. National, state and local perspectives relating to the focus, structure and content of HPE will also be critically examined.Skills that are emphasised in this subject are those that have been identified by the Teachers Registration Board (TRB), the ACARA HPE curriculum, as well as national teaching bodies, as important by the time you graduate with your teaching degree. These include demonstrating aspects of professional knowledge, professional relationships and professional practice.

It is contextualised to align with the Australian response to the global challenge of reducing medication-related harm.
