This unit is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of advanced wound care management through critical examination and application of the latest techniques, technologies, and research. Advancements in Comprehensive Wound Care

Wound care and infection prevention is a rapidly growing clinical area leading the way for tissue management, infection control, diagnosis, and assessment of critical issues in wound management.  Technologies such as digital, e-health and app-based sources are being rapidly absorbed into clinical practice. With a growing plethora of advanced wound therapies such as interactive dressings, tissue substitutes, and negative pressure wound therapy there are many tools in the clinician’s armamentarium for wound prevention and management.  This unit will investigate contemporary wound management therapies and the role of the digital technologies for wound management. The unit will also investigate the different types of advanced healing therapies, dressings, and devices available for clinical use and critically evaluate the evidence and clinical utility in specific health care settings and regions with a patient centric focus.  Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Contemporary Wound Management Therapies

This unit is designed to foster knowledge and understanding of the concepts and practices of wound assessment across a variety of different wound types. Wound Assessment in Practice

This subject is designed to foster knowledge of concepts, frameworks and practices of clinical and corporate governance, and an understanding of their application in health care settings. The integral links between an effective clinical and corporate governance framework and the four domains of patient safety and quality (consumer participation, clinical effectiveness, effective workforce and risk management) will be explored. The drivers and barriers to the implementation of effective governance within healthcare organisations will also be investigated.Murdoch University students should note that Clinical and Corporate Governance (NUR641) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed NUR641.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Clinical Governance

This subject is designed to foster knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of health care funding and how this translates to financial management in a range of health care settings. Students will develop an understanding of effective and practical approaches to financial management and how this is linked to organisational strategy and sustainability. The subject explores financial management in healthcare at the strategic funding level, the organisational level and at the manager level.

Financial Management in Health Care

This unit provides an introduction to the conduct and application of health-related research. Students will develop an understanding of the broad range of methods used to research health, illness and the delivery of services in health care settings. Applied Health Research Methods: From Research to Practice

This subject introduces students to management in diverse health care environments. It explores the complexities and challenges of health care management, and examines theoretical and contemporary evidence-based practice perspectives through review of current research. Concepts of managing change, motivation, conflict,  information, human resources, community engagement and organisational behaviour are discussed in the context of Australian health care  organisations. This subject is suitable for health professionals working in leadership and management roles, and those aspiring to do so.

Managing in a Health Care Environment

This subject focuses on reflective practice as an essential component of effective leadership and management. It  explores the importance of self-awareness, and the interpersonal processes associated with effective communication, influence and persuasion. Frameworks for critical reflection are examined in the context of professionalism, supervision, lifelong learning, and research in the health care setting.  Students will have the opportunity to examine how their beliefs, perceptions, experiences and backgrounds influence their ability to lead and manage.

Reflective Practice in Health Management

Important Information: Students are unable to self-enrol in this subject. Enrolment must be via review by the Academic Chair to ensure successful completion of SHP632 Applied Health Research Methods: From Research to Practice and to discuss the project. This may be either conducted in a health industry placement under the supervision of the lecturer and nominated preceptor or undertaken as a research project in a relevant coursework area that the student has selected. Applied Health Services Project

This subject was previously known as Human Factors: The Impact on Patient Safety.The study of Human Factors provides understanding of human characteristics and applies this to improving the design of machines, systems and team environments to reduce the likelihood of error in health care. This subject examines cognitive and behavioural characteristics that make humans error prone.
