This subject provides students with a broad overview of personal financial advice and the role of financial advisers in a dynamic environment. Students apply the knowledge and skills covered in this subject to discussions of contemporary issues, such as ethics, regulation, technology and government policy, and authentic financial planning tasks. Students should not enrol in this subject if they have previously completed 2200AFE: Financial Planning 1 at Griffith University.

An introduction to the processes, rules, and issues relevant to financial advisers. You’ll cover important skills and strategies that form the basis for personal financial advice. Learn to provide tailored and ethical advice to clients.

This subject advances student knowledge and skills in estate planning, from the regulatory environment, including the legal and tax implications of ownership structures in the management and transfer of assets, through to strategies to manage the client-professional relationship in the face of difficult circumstances including family breakdown, bankruptcy and the loss of a loved one. Prerequisites: AFE122 Financial Planning 1 (required) and AFE227 Superannuation and Retirement (recommended). Students should not enrol in this subject if they have previously completed 3219AFE: Estate Planning at Griffith University.

This subject focuses on the application of prior knowledge to the development of the necessary capacity to assess clients needs; prepare, present, evaluate and implement tailored, comprehensive financial plans. Students will also be able to recognise the implications of legal and ethical codes that relate to financial planners and to apply them to their own work activities. Prerequisites: AFE227 Superannuation and Retirement, AFE329 Estate Planning, AFE222 Risk Management and Insurance, and AFE223 Financial Planning 2. Students should not enrol in this subject if they have previously completed 3202AFE: Financial Planning, Construction and Review at Griffith University.

Financial Planning, Construction and Review

This course focuses on developing skills to engage with clients in a real-world context and is delivered by experienced industry professionals via online learning over twelve weeks. This course maps to a number of National Financial Adviser Curriculum core knowledge areas. In particular, we focus on client relationships and consumer behaviour, which includes coverage of the following: Communication in a professional context, providing information about services to clients (FSG, PDS), collecting information from clients and setting goals, understanding self and others, interpersonal communication skills, the importance of client cues and prompts such as body language, tone of voice, how to create and build trust, fiduciary duty, ethical and professional conduct, legislated &#39;client best interests&#39; requirement, risk profiling vs investment behaviour, managing the ongoing relationship and conflict resolution.

Financial Planning Skills

A major objective of this subject is the generation of retirement planning strategies. Assessment items reflect the challenging demands of an industry which seeks to ensure all Australians enjoy a comfortable and self-funded retirement. Therefore it is expected that students are knowledgeable of technical and regulatory issues, skillful in strategic thinking and analysis and aware of contemporary issues in the superannuation and retirement context.Â

Superannuation and Retirement

This subject concerns the identification, analysis, evaluation and treatment of risk. It highlights practical applications of general and life insurance products in developing and implementing personal and small business risk management strategies. In addition to investigating the insurance products available in the market, the subject will cover the structure of the insurance industry, its regulation, insurance law and the skills necessary to provide risk management and insurance advice to clients. Prerequisite: AFE122 Financial Planning 1. Students should not enrol in this subject if they have previously completed 2202AFE: Risk Management and Insurance at Griffith University.
