This course surveys the comparative political economy of East Asia, a highly dynamic region and one of critical importance to Australia&#39;s economic prosperity and security. It examines nine countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. Within these national settings, it focuses on government interventions in national economies and business involvement in politics, and activities that have helped to shape different rates of economic growth and political openness. In this subject you will understand basic monetary flows in the economy, and the interrelationships and dependencies between money, society, groups and organizations, locally and globally. You will develop core skills in financial literacy for business and an understanding of the key principles of accounting, finance and economics. This course introduces students to the basic economic principles and techniques (both micro and macro) with particular applications to the digital economy. Understanding of these principles and techniques equip students with relevant foundational skills to analyse the dynamic of the digital economy in relation to the implications, opportunities and challenges it presents. With digital economy the world has also seen an exponential increase in the amount of data generated per second. When strategically managed and analysed, data transform into useful information for business decision making. As such, this course further equips students with basic data analytic skills in applied business context.
