This subject explores the principles and applications of robotics and intelligent systems in a variety of sectors. It provides you with the necessary information and programming abilities to traverse real-world robotics settings. You will receive remote practical experience creating and completing robotics tasks through hands-on remote learning activities. You will work on projects that apply theoretical principles to real implementations. This subject also focuses on effective and inventive problem-solving methodologies, developing your ability to apply programming skills to industry applications. A comprehensive project report will demonstrate your knowledge of robotics foundations, problem-solving talents, and programming expertise.

Programming for Robotics

The subject provides an introduction to many AI sub-fields, including: expert systems, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, intelligent agents. Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art examples as well as emerging technologies and get practical experience of solving interesting problems in each of these sub-fields. The subject covers the definition of Artificial Intelligence and its subfields; introduces foundational logic and knowledge representation; and considers social, ethical, and philosophical consequences of the theory and practice of AI. Students will learn different perspectives on the approach to creating AI, its purpose, and its validity. The subject will highlight the increasingly important social and economic roles of AI and will feature guest lectures from research and/or industry experts to highlight current research directions and deepen students&#39; understanding of specific topics.

Artificial Intelligence

This subject will explore the exciting field of virtual reality, mixed reality and the advanced concepts and technologies for interfacing humans with complex machines. We will discuss their potential impact on the way we think about computers and the way we interact with them. The subject will provide an introduction to advanced human-computer interfaces such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Tangible User Interface (TUI) technologies. Interface design principles will be reviewed from human factors and technological perspectives. Hardware, software, and design aspects of virtual interfaces will be investigated. We will also learn about these virtual interfaces designed and implemented in medicine, education, design and entertainment. Hands-on experience will be provided through a series of tutorial sessions to provide basic skills on using different tools to develop students&#39; own simple interface applications.Completing this subject will provide you with an opportunity to obtain the Unity Certified User: VR Developer professional industry certification via completion of a certification exam.

Virtual and Mixed Reality Technology

This subject introduces fundamental programming skills, developing students&#39; ability to think algorithmically to solve problems and to express their ideas in well-constructed Python code. Beginning with the fundamental characteristics of computers and how they represent information, the subject develops the concepts of data types, variables, expressions (calculations), statements (actions), and text-based input and output. Building on these low-level constructs, the subject examines ways to manage program complexity with control structures (for making decisions), functions and their parameters, built-in and custom data structures, and higher-level organisational mechanisms such as modules. Students will have the opportunity to explore advanced topics such as error handling and recursion.

Programming Fundamentals

This subject introduces the concepts of software design and development in the context of computer programming. You will learn how to design, manage, and evaluate projects that solve real-world applied technology problems through industry best practice and design methodologies. You will learn to design and build programs for applied technology using the Python language and how to apply programming practices in industry using concepts such as computational efficiency, coding best practice, interfacing, and documenting.

In this subject, you will learn how computer networks are constructed, how they work, and how modern applications use the services provided by modern computer networks. The concept of protocol layering will be explored to learn how computer networks operate, using the OSI Model and TCIP/IP protocol suite as examples, including an examination of the functionality and protocols provided by the different layers of these systems. You will use this information to design a network to industry specifications.This subject also incorporates learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. These experiences are placed at the centre of learning and assessment, for you to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to respond to industry, community and/or global needs. You will be introduced to:- a range of methods, tools, techniques and approaches to practice;- principles and perspectives such as values, ethics, empathy and leadership in real world scenarios;- reflection and deliberative thinking as a means of developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations;- ways of understanding problems and developing solutions through active inquiry.
