Supervision is the discipline of enabling professional practitioners—such as social workers, counsellors, spiritual directors, ministers, principals, and so on—to reflect on their practice, become mindful of their blind spots, gain ever-deepening insight, and become open to opportunities for personal and professional growth. The Australian Association of Supervision speaks of supervision &quot;as a contractual, relational, collaborative process, which facilitates the ethical and professional practice of the supervisee&quot;.The Graduate Diploma in Supervision enables you to develop advanced knowledge and skills suited to the ethical, self-aware and safe practice of supervision across a number of fields, including health care, education and social service settings.Through the Graduate Diploma in Supervision, develop your personal, psychological, ethical, organisational and spiritual understandings, as well as sophisticated supervision frameworks. You will also be provided with opportunities to enhance and extend your practical skills in supervision.

Graduate Diploma in Supervision

The Master of Social Work is a vibrant and challenging program. You will be encouraged to build on your existing knowledge and experience, and gain a sound understanding of social work values and practice approaches. The course emphasises social justice, human rights, and achieving the best possible outcomes for the most marginalised and disadvantaged members of our community. You will be taught by leading social work practitioners and academics, with a strong focus on experiential learning.You must attend a compulsory, 10-day on-campus component in Year 1 and a 10-day on-campus component in Year 2 of your program (i.e., 20 on-campus days in total), delivered at ACU&#39;s Brisbane and Melbourne campusesPlease note, for students who enrol midyear in Term 3, the program is scheduled over an additional two terms, completion time will be 2.5 years.

Humanitarian assistance is intended to “save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity during and after man-made crises and disasters caused by natural hazards, as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for when such situations occur” (Development Initiatives 2022). It is governed by the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance continues to increase. Situations requiring humanitarian assistance are frequently complex emergencies, in which disaster, conflict and displacement occur simultaneously. Such complex emergencies have profound health effects. This unit will enable students to gain an understanding of humanitarian principles, theory and definitions, as well as an appreciation of the history of humanitarianism and significant events that have shaped modern humanitarian efforts. Emphasis will be placed on building an understanding of the global infrastructure for humanitarian assistance, such as international relief systems, roles and responsibilities of relevant actors (government and non-government) and the principles of international humanitarian law. Students will explore the health-related dimensions of humanitarian assistance, with an emphasis on the prevention and management of acute health risks during humanitarian emergencies. Students will conclude the unit by exploring challenges in humanitarian assistance such as political influences, workforce security, public trust, as well as chronic humanitarian crises and sustainable development.The aim of the unit is to give students a deep understanding of the continuing relevance of humanitarian assistance to public health.
